Follow-up to previous post dedicated to Psych/White Collar squee -- I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I am in awe of USA's branding and audience targeting. HOW DO THEY MAKE ME WANT TO WATCH EVERY SHOW THAT THEY AIR? BECAUSE GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYYYYYS LOOK AT THEIR NEW SHOW:

Covert Affairs

I don't really know anything about it except that 1) based on YouTube comments, it looks like an Alias rip-off? Never watched Alias myself, so I wouldn't know; and 2) IT STARS PIPER PERABO, OH MY GOD I HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON HER; and 3) IT ALSO FEATURES ANNE DUDEK AS HER ROOMMATE, PLEASE TELL ME SOMEBODY IS WRITING THAT FIC RIGHT NOW, ALL OF MY TV-RELATED LESBIAN FANTASIES ARE COMING TRUE (ETA: it just occurred to me that Anne Dudek's character might actually turn out to be her sister, which would be awkward. PLEASE PLEASE ROOMMATE PLEASE; ETA2: GODDAMMIT IT'S HER SISTER. I HAVE BEEN THWARTED); and 4) Sendhil Ramamurthy is on it!; and 5) the first episode is directed by Tim Matheson, who did two of my favorite Psych episodes ("65 Million Years Off" and "Earth, Wind, and... Wait for It..."); and 6) GUYS I JUST REALLY REALLY HOPE THIS SHOW IS GOOD BECAUSE NEVER BEFORE HAVE I BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT SOMETHING BASED ON A FEW SECONDS FROM A SUMMER TV PROMO.

ETA3: Hahahaha oh man this is the definition of secondhand embarrassment. ETA4 (I promise I will stop editing this entry eventually): AND THERE'S A LONGER VERSION.

I am never going to finish this recap, am I? I don't know why I'm so demotivated this time around; in years past, it has always been my favorite bit of my year in review. Possibly I am just getting bogged down... um, yes, you can probably see why I needed to implement that "no new shows" rule. So, anyway, TV I Have Seen! Spoilers for: House, Legend of the Seeker, Leverage, Life on Mars, Lost, Mad Men, Merlin, NCIS, Psych, Pushing Daisies.

WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, this post is done for now and it's not even 1:30AM yet. I had to cut myself off at Robin Hood or else... yeah. Hmm. Badness would ensue; I'll save that for a later date.

In doing my Year in Fiction recap last time, I had the most fun -- and blew the most time! -- doing my TV post; and, as 2008 began drawing to a close, I sincerely looked forward to going through the same process again in putting together a TV of 2008 retrospective. Yet once work actually began... I. Wow. Holy balls, guys. I WATCH SO MUCH FRIGGEN TV. When exactly did that happen? Looking over my post from last year I felt a bit ridiculous about how many new fandoms I had picked up, but between now and then my list has just about tripled. Um. Err. Yeah. Oops? I apologize in advance for the rather epic nature of this post, then. Definitely not dial-up friendly. Spoilers for the most recent seasons of: American Idol, Big Wolf on Campus, Chuck, Crusoe, House M.D., Legend of the Seeker, Life on Mars, Lost, M*A*S*H, Mad Men, Merlin, The Middleman, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: SG-1, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: TOS.

Epic Girl!crush Picspam of Doom that I started, like... a month ago... is finally finished! ...Sort of. Well. Finished in a me definition of the word, where I spent way too long working on it; started getting picky over everything; somehow picked up two new fandoms in the meantime; felt compelled to add more and more; felt guilty over stuff being left out; finally said ENOUGH ALREADY, SELF -- CLOSURE!! So I limited it to television girl!crushes. From shows currently airing -- or that would be airing if they weren't on hiatus. Or if they hadn't been off the air for years, and that I'm only now catching up with. Except for, well, the one that's already aired and I've already caught up with, finally, but am not ready to let go of. Ahhhh this is why I can never get anything done.

A few of the reasons why I love my TV... )

HoYay Week!

So, after my last post, I have decided that it is indeed official: thanks first to watching Psych's "Dis-Lodged" and then to House's "Frozen" and "Don't Ever Change," I declare this past week of television to be the pinnacle of slashiness. Maybe it's something in the air...? Who knows? I'm not one to question my blessings; the Lord works in mysterious ways. Of course this has to be commemorated in picspam form, though.

Psych 2.14, House 4.11-12 )

Random fandom:

Best House spoilers EVER!! (ETA: which are now mentioned in the comments)

And, if you're a Psych fan, you should totally try out their personalized voicemail generator. I already sent one to my sister, but unfortunately they don't have my little brother's name recorded. AND AHHHH NEW EPISODE TONIGHT!

TV of 2007

For the third and final part of my Fictional 2007 review, I bring you my year in television shows. This post has been an embarrassingly long time in the making (as evidenced by the fact that I did the first two within the same day and yet have been adding onto this one for the better part of the week), because, wow. I don't think I quite realized just how many new TV shows I've picked up on the wayside. I remember a few years ago making an agreement with myself to limit my major TV fandoms to only House and Lost, because I was HUGELY invested in both of those and didn't think I could make room for another obsession of a similar caliber. And then somehow I justified watching a few summer shows, some reality TV, maybe some educational programming... and holy bejeebies where did all these fandoms come from? I also blame the fact that, through some installation mix-up or something, I've been getting full cable (70+ channels) at school for the past semester despite the fact that I only pay for basic (about 15 channels); and being the terrible person that I am, I've decided to milk the mistake for as long as I can (and, ooh, spooky coincidence -- my Comcast bill literally just popped up in my inbox as I typed this. Weirdly enough, this is one bill I don't get annoyed at paying; instead, I get excited about having another month of TV!!! :D Yes, I am in desperate need of a life).

Caution: contains lots of large-ish images, as well as spoilery discussion of the most recent seasons of Lost, House, Robin Hood, Psych, Star Trek: TOS, Star Trek: DS9, American Idol, and Pushing Daisies

Part Three: Television )

Yeah. We all saw it coming. But I still have a lot of things to say about it.

Spoilers for House 4.09: Games )
snowystingray: (cutthroat bitch)
For those of you who celebrate it, happy Thanksgiving! More than a just a time of eating until I make myself sick (ah, what a great American traidtion!), today is a chance to reflect on the good things in life, and maybe appreciate some blessings that I have taken for granted. So here's my list of things that I am thankful for:

-TiVo!! Reunited, and it feels so good... In the past two days, I've watched a movie, an episode of Pushing Daisies, three episodes of Dirty Jobs, and five episodes of Star Trek. Which brings me to a corollary item to be thankful for...
-Star Trek! Since I've been at school, DS9 has been piling up, so I've got about forty episodes to catch up with. So far I've only watched four of them, and already it is has provided a bounty of hilarious, touching, scary, sweet, and oh-so-slashy moments. Bashir/O'Brien, how I have missed you.
-House. Or more specifically, CTB. Or even more specifically, Amber/Taub. I have three papers to write, and one book and one play to read over break for class, and yet the only thing I've succeeded in working on is Amber/Taub fic to fill in some of the titillating gaps left by 4.08.
-Guy/Marian. Yes, I do have a penchant for horribly doomed ships, why do you ask? I just can't help myself when it comes to these two, though. And even though I know it is going to crash and burn and perish in the flames and leave me heartbroken and devastated, I still say that it is worth every. single. minute. This season of Robin Hood has helped me through my darkest hour, given me something to look forward to at the end of a depressingly directionless week, and also introduced me to some great new LJ friends. Behold the power of Richard Armitage and Lucy Griffiths to rescue me from my sophomore slump at college.
-ETA: I can't believe I forgot this one -- Psych! In case you haven't already check it out, they're having a Christmas special this year and the preview clip is already up at the USA site. How is it possibly that one 90-second clip could cause me to nearly overload on funny? It needs to be December 7th already.

Things I am not grateful for:
-The aforementioned three papers to write, and one book and one play to read over break. Hm. Yeah. Let's guess exactly how much of that I've gotten around to. I should get started on it... but I think I'm going to continue my Amber/Taub smut and then go watch some more DS9. Yay for holidays, and a semi-legitimate excuse to be lazy!
snowystingray: (cutthroat bitch)
I am finally home! For the first time in almost three months!!! It's exciting. (And also a bit frustrating, because our computer here at home is nowhere near as awesome as MY computer, and also the 1/! key is not fully functional. Quite inconvenient for somebody who has become increasingly more prone to GIANT CAPSLOCK SQUEE!!! I have to just keep copying and pasting the exclamation point instead).

House 4.08: You Don't Want to Know )
snowystingray: (aladdin)
Oops, I forgot to post about House. Well, I really only have one main thought about it, but it needs to be shared.

Mild spoilers (speculation, really) for Mirror, Mirror )

Gosh, I might be the only one, but I have really really been enjoying this season of House. Like, really. I don't think I've been able to talk about it in anything other than complete capslock adoration.

The happy ending to my Halloween costume story that started a million years ago: I actually finished the whole thing! On time! Of course, our Halloween party ended up being the day after Halloween, which gave me some extra time to work on it, but I'm proud of myself nonetheless. Oh, and right after I made that post about how I gave up on buying feathers, I decided to go ahead and do it anyway, only with a slightly less expensive selection than I had initially considered. All told, I spent about $50 on the entire costume, which isn't too bad considering the excessive amounts of floofy accessories. Since I don't have a camera, I'll have to mooch photos off of other people before I can share pictures -- hopefully they aren't too embarrassing, haha.

I managed to talk everybody into watching The Lost Boys. And they liked it! They really liked it! Sorry, this is just a new experience for me, as most of my friends are unable to get past the oiled up saxophone player and I'm left going, "Seriously, am I the only one here who had a giant crush on Corey Feldman when I was five? ...Apparently."
snowystingray: (house/wilson)
The total lack of Wilson last night seems to be the universe's way of restoring itself after I had two fandoms have two BEST SCENE EVER!!!s within two weeks. (I already posted about the House scene that broke my brain, but, in case you missed it, thanks to this scene, Robin Hood has taken COMPLETE OWNERSHIP OF MY LIFE.) Still, though, I found myself surprisingly engaged in the episode -- I know I swore not to get invested in the new fellows until they were all settled in and I wouldn't have to wail every time a good one left, but as usual I completely fail at life.

Spoilers for House: Guardian Angels )

In conclusion: Cutthroat Pixie = hot; but Cutthroat/Thirteen = hotter.
