snowystingray: (TARDIS)
Just spent the evening converting my coworkers to Doctor Who GUUUUUUUYS I SENSE A RELAPSE INTO ENDLESS CAPSLOCK-SATURATED FLAILING. HOW IS S5/ELEVEN/AMY/RORY/EVERYTHING SO PERFECT UGGGGHHHHHHHH MY HEART.

Okay, sleep time now.
snowystingray: (boys before flowers - jan di/ji hoo)
Do you ever have those moments when you're watching something and you have to pause it because it is just too cute -- TOO. IMPOSSIBLY. CUTE!!! -- for you to digest all at once? This is me with Sungkyunkwan Scandal right now, episode seventeen.

EEEEEE.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Why is this show almost over though, augh, noooo. D:

Seriously, though, I am on my hands and knees here, flist, YOU SHOULD BE WATCHING. I NEED SOMEONE TO FLAIL WITH. Do I need to convince you with eyecandy? I'll do it! I swear!

Joseon F4 )

Seriously, you have no idea how excited I am right now to be watching a drama that is actually adorable and gorgeous and funny but, most importantly, SMART AND WELL-WRITTEN. In a fit of nostalgia (what, yes, I can have nostalgia after two months), I was rewatching some BBF the other day and was just like... ... WHAT IS THIS STUPID SHOW. WHY. WHY IS IT SO STUPID. (And I still love it and it still made me cry. And it was only like the second episode, where hardly anything tearworthy happens. JUST SEEING JI HOO'S FACE MAKES ME CRYYYYYY, AUGHHHHH.)

...Anyway. Ugh, seriously, last week was like hell week at school so I am fully content with doing absolutely nothing productive at all today in compensation. Well, we have exams today so I am trying to bring in some activities for the kids to do if they finish early. For younger students I'm just going to give them coloring sheets, but for the older kids I thought I would bring in some logic puzzles. I've been looking them up this morning, though, and OH MAN I LOVE LOGIC PUZZLES SO MUCH, THEY'RE SUPER ADDICTIVE, I WASTED LIKE AN HOUR PLAYING WITH THEM MYSELF. I hope my students actually like them and aren't just like, "...What. No," because I'm totally excited about this, hahaha.
snowystingray: (the snuggie of latin america)
I should be asleep, like, yesterday (literally yesterday because it's now in the wee hours of tomorrow! Err, today, that is), but I just have certain feeeeeeelings that need to be aired, predominantly of the Doctor Who variety.

(But first, quick plug -- super awesome Legend of the Seeker Kahlan & Cara post! Oh how I miss them already! Okay, now back to Who!)

SO, RIGHT, WHAAAAAAAT. I know I mentioned before that I was trying to content myself with the BBC America airing schedule in being three weeks behind with new episodes, but after "Cold Blood" I JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE. I GAVE IN, COLLAPSED LIKE A CHEAP RAINBOW-STRIPED NYLON CIRCUS TENT AFTER SOMEBODY HAS DROPPED A FIFTY THOUSAND POUND MARSHMALLOW ON TOP OF IT. GUYYYYYS WHAT ON EARTH, I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT, HOW IS THERE ONLY ONE EPISODE LEFT??

Here lies spoilery talk for series five thus far )
snowystingray: (Default)
Follow-up to previous post dedicated to Psych/White Collar squee -- I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I am in awe of USA's branding and audience targeting. HOW DO THEY MAKE ME WANT TO WATCH EVERY SHOW THAT THEY AIR? BECAUSE GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYYYYYS LOOK AT THEIR NEW SHOW:

Covert Affairs

I don't really know anything about it except that 1) based on YouTube comments, it looks like an Alias rip-off? Never watched Alias myself, so I wouldn't know; and 2) IT STARS PIPER PERABO, OH MY GOD I HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON HER; and 3) IT ALSO FEATURES ANNE DUDEK AS HER ROOMMATE, PLEASE TELL ME SOMEBODY IS WRITING THAT FIC RIGHT NOW, ALL OF MY TV-RELATED LESBIAN FANTASIES ARE COMING TRUE (ETA: it just occurred to me that Anne Dudek's character might actually turn out to be her sister, which would be awkward. PLEASE PLEASE ROOMMATE PLEASE; ETA2: GODDAMMIT IT'S HER SISTER. I HAVE BEEN THWARTED); and 4) Sendhil Ramamurthy is on it!; and 5) the first episode is directed by Tim Matheson, who did two of my favorite Psych episodes ("65 Million Years Off" and "Earth, Wind, and... Wait for It..."); and 6) GUYS I JUST REALLY REALLY HOPE THIS SHOW IS GOOD BECAUSE NEVER BEFORE HAVE I BEEN SO EXCITED ABOUT SOMETHING BASED ON A FEW SECONDS FROM A SUMMER TV PROMO.

Video )

OH, AND RIGHT, REMEMBER HOW MARSHA THOMASON IS BACK TO A SERIES REGULAR ON WHITE COLLAR S2? LEBSIAN FANTASIES FULFILLED PT. 3. WHERE DO I DIRECT MY FANMAIL, USA NETWORK?

ETA3: Hahahaha oh man this is the definition of secondhand embarrassment. ETA4 (I promise I will stop editing this entry eventually): AND THERE'S A LONGER VERSION.
snowystingray: (lost - braaaaains)
The only thing I have to say about tonight's Lost is the same thing I have to say every time a certain character shows up in the sideways... spoilers, obviously. )

BIRTHDAY POST!!!!!

I may have finally reached that age where birthdays are to be dreaded rather than celebrated; but thankfully the internet is an ageless wonder, an anomaly of time and space, and a perfect venue for a "Things That Make Me Happy!" post! AND YOU CAN PLAY ALONG! (Seriously, please do.)

I'll stick with you baby for a thousand years, nothing's gonna touch you in these golden yeeeeeeeaaaaaars!! )

I'd like to keep this open until I leave on Wednesday, so please! Spam away! Picspams, gifs, fanvids, basically anything in the history of ever that you feel like linking to or flailing over... all expressions of joy and happiness are welcome.
snowystingray: (star trek)
Right, another drive-by because, unbelievably, I have to actually get up early tomorrow, oh curse my generous spirit -- BUT OH MAN MY FEELINGS ON THIS JUST HAVE TO BE SHARED RIGHT NOW, EVEN IN TRUNCATED FORM.

I literally just wrote about how I never understood the need to fangirl Heathcliff BUT THIS IS MY JOURNAL AND I WILL BE A HYPOCRITE IF I LIKE AND GODDAAAAAMN JUST DO ME ON IT, TIMOTHY DALTON. )

Oh, and I finished The Living Daylights and I actually hated very very little of it, and in fact thought it was rather awesome, and I totally shipped the Bond/Bond Girl OTP, AND SERIOUSLY OKAY THIS IS JUST MY WAY OF SAYING THAT THERE WILL BE A TIMOTHY DALTON PICSPAM THIS WEEKEND, SO PREPARE YOURSELVES.

(AUUUUGGGHHHH WHY DID I NOT CAP THE JANE EYRE MINI WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE?)
snowystingray: (Default)
You're probably expecting me to post about Lost, aren't you? I have literally spent all of my waking moments over the last 24 hours talking/thinking/reading about the episode, though, and my brain needed a break so I watched White Collar.

AND AND AND OMG 1.10 SPOILERS )

Guys, why is nobody else on my flist watching this?? Please rectify immediately.

...Okay, we will soon return to your regularly programed Lost flail (LOSTLOSTLOSTLOST, JFC THAT EPISODE, I HAVE ALREADY WATCHED THE WHOLE THING TWICE AND MY BRAIN WANTS TO DIE. IT ALSO WANTS TO MAKE IMMEDIATE SWEET SWEET LOVE TO THE NEW GUY).
snowystingray: (Default)
Why hello there, show I never post about!

So. Dollhouse finale. )
snowystingray: (Default)
Not watching new White Collar until tomorrow but, after getting caught up with everything yesterday, I felt the need to make a pre-emptive photo post.

MUCH SHALLOWNESS WITHIN. ALSO PRETTY MUCH THIS ENTIRE THING IS CAPSLOCK, JSYK. )
snowystingray: (Default)
Okay, I know that pretty much none of you are Chuck geeks and in general I am flailing into a void, but OMG OMG NEW CHUCK )

ETA: Oh, and also -- I've been working back up on my Lost rewatch, and got through "Enter 77" today. A bunch of them are episodes I haven't actually watched over since they first aired, so it's like WHOOOAAAA, "Stranger in a Strange Land" really is still as lame as I remember it! and WHOOOAAA, "Enter 77" is such a massive boon of Kate/Sayid, I don't know how I managed to forget that!
snowystingray: (OM NOM NOM)
New to me TV of 2009. Keep in mind that this is with a self-imposed moratorium on picking up any new TV shows during the fall season, so... this is significantly less unwieldy (significantly more... wieldy...er?) than it might otherwise have been. Spoilers for: American Idol, Ashes to Ashes, Big Wolf on Campus, Chuck, Crusoe, Dollhouse, Farscape

TV of 2009 )

Aaaand I decided to cut this off because I'm cold and hungry and lazy and will probably never ever never get through the whole thing if I decide to do it as one behemoth of a post (...I am only about a quarter of the way through my shows -- and then you know I'm going to blab like twice as long over Lost and twenty times as long over Robin Hood). So expect future installments soon, picking up with... House! Which I literally never write about any more! And yet somehow I still watch every episode because it is impossible for me to drop a fandom. (PLUS WHAT WHAT WHAT MONDAY'S EPISODE WHAAAAT.)
snowystingray: (marian - charming more than charmed)
Drive-by post before I have to get ready for work -- so, remember how I did some massive gushing over the BBC America Robin Hood page? Well! WELL. I'M ABOUT TO DO IT AGAIN.

First of all -- GO LOOK AT THEIR WALLPAPERS. Yes, that's right, there's a Guy/Marian wallpaper. And not a Robin/Marian one. LOLOLOLOLOL.

Second of all -- the Hunks of Sherwood forest is still awesome. This month: Sir Guy of Gisborne hasn't taken the death of Marian very well; after all, it's his fault isn't it? Can his humanity be saved or has he lost the ability to love anyone ever again? LOLOLOLOLOL.

Third of all -- check out the games! There's one where you get to be a sort of Nottingham stock broker and play the market to earn enough money to pay your taxes. I lost. The Black Knights burned down my house. Also, the Nightwatchman stole half of my money, that bastard (who does he think he is, Robin Hood?).

Fourth of all -- apparently the character playlists aren't gone, after all? ??!???! I was doing the "outlaw or villain" quiz, got Marian as my result (which, by the way, I wasn't even aiming for, but heccccck yes), and, after a particularly thrilling character blurb (Lady Marian: If only the world were black-and-white; you'd love to embrace the outlaw spirit, but you can't just up and leave civilization. You have obligations, and you have people you hold dear that you cannot abandon. What's your solution? You work inside the system to make change, playing innocent while secretly undermining those in power.), there are two links -- one to a character banner, and one to THE CHARACTER PLAYLIST WHAAAAAT. Well. I'm not sure if it actually works or not -- it redirects to iTunes, which I don't have installed, so I couldn't see it. But it's definitely worth further investigation for those of you who do have iTunes on your computers.

AND. YES. I'M MARIAN. THE INTERNET SAID SO, IT MUST BE TRUE.

snowystingray: (FLAMES FROM THE SIDE OF MY FACE)
I have no idea how I did not know of this sooner, but as some kindly soul at [livejournal.com profile] robinhoodbbc just brought to my attention -- Robin Hood series three finally airs in America starting this weekend! !!!! Why am I excited about this? I've already seen it all -- repeatedly -- and angsted about it all -- repeatedly. I also know there's about a 0% chance that I'm going to convince any of my American friends to finally watch it, but, you know what? Who cares. It just excites me in general to know that it will be on MY television.

And it also excites me to revisit the BBC America Robin Hood page! From the people who brought us the character playlists (including "Question of Lust" for Guy and "Shadows of the Night" for Marian, SERIOUSLY PERSON WHO MADE THIS I AM KIND OF IN LOVE WITH YOU) and Vaysey's blog (featuring gems like: "Robin Hood emerged from his hibernation - and he starts shooting people left and right. I was shocked. Robin Hood does not kill! I was so shocked, in fact, that I dropped my tooth.") (and, okay, I would say that I'm disappointed that both features have now been removed from the site, except... well... continue on, gentle reader) come new exciting extras like Hunks of Sherwood Forest (how much am I cracking up that Tuck is on there? THIIIIIS MUCH) and and and THE BEST PART EVER -- !!!!! -- JUST CHECK OUT THE VIDEO PAGE. I mean, is that one giant love-letter to Guy/Marian or IS THAT ONE GIANT LOVE-LETTER TO GUY/MARIAN? There are all of, like, two clips that actually feature Robin, and basically every single Guy/Maz Best Scene Ever is included. The "Marry me... and live!" scene has been titled "CHOOSE LIFE!" When Guy (sort of) helps Marian escape in 2.06 -- "A God Amongst Men." (Okay, I know that is part of the Sheriff's quote, but I am choosing to also attribute the choice of title to the fact that Guy is legitimately romantic in the first half of the clip.) I AM NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING WHEN I SAY THAT THIS HAS MADE MY ENTIRE DAY. And then the Armitage interview bits are, as always, amaaaaaazing and yet ruinous to my heart. Most of them are ones I've seen before, but I think some are new to me -- the one where he talks about 2.10, for instance, and how Guy asking Marian to marry him was for once not about having her as a possession but about saving her as a person who he loves -- fsdkjdejl;sadf;ljdfsalkjfal;jf;das I WILL NEVER BE OVER THEM, I WILL LOVE THEM FOREVER, OMG OMG.
snowystingray: (Default)
- How was your morning? Mine involved maggots, possibly in punishment for oversleeping.

- [livejournal.com profile] capslock_hood rewatch today! SO. EXCITED. I put my own Robin Hood rewatch on hold so I could jump on board with the capschat, so I think it's only going to overlap with what I've been watching by one episode (1.07, but I honestly do not mind watch that one as often as possible). Come join if you can!

- I love [livejournal.com profile] bygonefashion.

- TV catch-up! Leverage just started back this season. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching this show for the wrong reasons -- I rarely connect with the victim plot of the week and tend to find them rather dull (I mean, I know the central conceit of the show is helping those who can't help themselves, but could we maybe have clients with even the teeniest amount of character agency?), and then I usually lose the con about halfway through -- but I just love the tone of the show and all of the hero characters so darn much. Like, honestly, I just want them to all sit around in that pub all day (random aside, but the Ashes to Ashes part of my brain is all like OMG IS IT SIGNIFICANT??? that Nate hangs out in a bar below street level and then lives in a rented room upstairs above it? How is this relevant to his psyche? Is he descending into his deepest primal urges every time he goes down and thinks about having a drink? Is the upstairs representative of his upper brain functions and the intricate planning of his cons and how he uses it to mask the ache of his recovering alcoholism? AM I POSSIBLY THINKING TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS??) and talk about, I don't know, the new episodes of Torchwood or the finer points of jumping out of a plane or something, and I would happily watch that for weeks on end. All of my favorite bits were just silly character moments -- Parker and the fingerquotes, Sophie's singing being not quite as good as her acting, the Eliot/Hardison exchange about Pakistan, Eliot busting through the wall with a chainsaw... oh, team! It's so nice to have everybody together again.

- I've also been keeping up with Royal Pains, which I don't actually think I've posted about since the first episode. Well. Hmmm. I think it underwent a growth period during the early episodes -- like Leverage, it does have a tendency to get rather heavy handed with it's moral righteousness (Royal Pains drinking game -- every time somebody complains vaguely about "the system," take a shot!) -- but it's matured quite nicely and I've been getting into the stories a lot more lately. I really enjoyed "No Man is an Island" (have I mentioned that the Evan/Hank dynamic is basically my favorite thing about the show? Because... it totally is), and then I thought this week's was good as well. Things that I find refreshing about the show:

1. I like that Hank is actually invested in his work now, instead of being the reluctant hero dragged around by Evan (see: the end of "No Man is an Island." GOOD CHOICE, HANK), and I like that it's progressed beyond the straightforward Robin Hood parallel -- i.e. he only treats rich people so he can take all their money and afford to treat those without resources. Rather, the show has established that he tries to find a way to help all of his patients, because there are problems in people's lives that aren't necessarily all about money, and if you think it's ridiculous to define people based purely on their income, then... maybe you shouldn't define people based purely on their income (which is more of what Jill tends to do)?

2. So relatedly, I like that there are a bunch of recurring characters and that we have a chance to see Hank develop a relationship with these people he's otherwise rather contemptuous of.

3. To go back to the Jill-Hank relationship, then -- well, hmmm. I'm still uncertain about her character. Aside from the fact that she is the least believable hospital administrator ever (like, okay, I know that TV needs hotter and younger professionals than exist in real life, but it borders on ridiculous; IMDb doesn't list an age for the actress, but she doesn't look more than 30), she's kind of, well... boring and one-sided? To return to the Robin Hood parallel (because, obviously, everything can be reduced to that) it seemed like the show was setting up Hank as Hood and then Jill as Marian, his sort of go-to girl on the inside... but now it feels like it's flipped, and suddenly Hank is the one who gets to live both sides of working high society but also helping the poor, and dealing with the emotional issues of each, while Jill is stuck in the Bobbin mentality of "all rich people suck, let's throw rocks at them. Also, being smug and morally superior is clearly the best way to get people to like me." Okay, this is probably sounding a lot meaner than I meant it to because I don't completely hate her character, but she still hasn't fully grown on me. I do really like how her relationship with Hank has been developing, though. While I'm not usually a fan of "OMG THESE TWO CHARACTERS JUST MET BUT THEY ARE TOTALLY PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. Like, look, they have matching cars and they look into each other soooouls and don't you just want them to get married and have beautiful babies? LOVE. PURE TRUE HOLY LOVE and they're hooking up, like, now," I get equally tired of, "OMG THESE TWO CHARACTERS JUST MET BUT THEY ARE TOTALLY PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER but they can never be together due to lame reasons that we are fabricating for drama, so enjoy the UST for the next five seasons but don't bank on anything." So I like that their romance has been rather straightforward -- they like each other, they have a lot in common, they each find the other attractive, neither has any other romantic obligations -- so they get together, like two normal, grown adults who want to have a normal, grown adult relationship, instead of mooning around about each other wangsting over "does he like like me or just like me??"

4. Not a praise, more of a nitpick -- dude. NEEDS MOAR DIVYA. She is so underused and, incidentally, so much more interesting than Jill (OMG the Robin Hood comparisons continue -- okay, so, Divya is like Djaq, right? Because she's snarky and good with medicine and just awesome in general. So then Evan is Allan, the loudmouth grifter... and now I can totally justify why I ship the two of them... Okay, I should stop before this parallel runs any deeper. Also, there is no Sheriff or Guy equivalent, which makes me sad).

Anyway, moving on to the last and most important point...

- HARRY POTTER. I actually made up a list of things I've been meaning to post about and accidentally put Harry Potter on it twice, ha. YES IT IS THAT IMPORTANT. Thoughts about the Half-Blood Prince film )

Oh, but quick vid flail -- so I've been going through all of my old Harry Potter links and such, and, okay, I'm willing to bet that you've already all seen it because 1) it's almost two years old and 2) IT'S KIND OF THE MOST AMAZING VID EVER, but even if it isn't new to you it certainly demands to be re-experienced: the first four Potter films to Snakes on a Plane. UGHHH HARRY POTTER WHY SO EPIC?
snowystingray: (ashes to ashes)
Okay, did I say that I was going to wait a bit before starting on Ashes to Ashes? Yeah, well, I LIED. I watched the first episode last night and, oh man, here ensues the flail to end all flail.

Cut for spoilers and for the fact that you might be blinded by the sheer amounts of capslock glee )

ETA: Okay, after one evening I... may possibly already be through 1.05? I CAN'T HELP MYSELF. GENE/ALEX DFSKJ;ASFJ;LASDFJADF OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY.

Double ETA: The one thing about A2A that I hands down prefer from LoM -- the opening credits/theme! Given the brilliant use of music on LoM I always thought the title theme was a bit, well, lame to be honest, but the one here is so beyond perfect. When marathoning a show, the quality of the opening credits quickly becomes apparent: when they're bad or just plain boring, you get sick of sitting through them over and over again every time a new episode starts; but when they're good you're filled with an excited thrill of anticipation that sets the tone for the hour of television you're about to witness. (And when I say "you" I actually mean "me" because I fear I'm probably the only person to get so invested in opening credits.)
snowystingray: (star trek)
It's times like these that I really hate only having six icon spaces because I wish I had about fifty Star Trek icons to express every facet of my pure and uncontrolled excitement over the movie. SERIOUSLY. SERIOUSLY. IF YOU ARE A TREK FAN, GO SEE IT. IF YOU ARE NOT A TREK FAN, GO SEE IT. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY FOR A MOVIE TICKET, GO SEE IT. I don't know if I'd say that it was completely perfect or brain-breaking or what have you, but I really really really just enjoyed the heck out of it, and I feel compelled to share my glee far and wide.

Big big spoilers, and extensive overuse of the word awesome )
snowystingray: (Default)
You know, I initially picked up Chuck as my fun happy weekly giggles show, and now somehow it has turned into "that show where I sit curled up in front of the TV in a giant anxious jittery ball of nerves wondering what the hell is going on with all my characters arrrrghhhhh" (which, between this and Robin Hood, I have noticed is starting to become something of a pattern with me. WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF?)

2.21 Chuck vs. the Colonel; sorry in advance for the extreme capslocking contained within )
snowystingray: (Default)
Okay. I know I have been barely posting about House lately. But.

BEST EPISODE EVER. OR NOT EVER, BUT AT LEAST IN A LONG, LONG, POST-AMBER WHILE. OMG. Maybe it's because I've been angsting over so much of my fiction as of late, but this was a beyond perfect example of angst that ends in heartwarming d'awwww and seriously COULD I LOVE WILSON ANY MORE?? NOT. IF. I. TRIED. (And believe you me, I certainly have.) Oh, House/Wilson. Sometimes you are frustrating as hell and sometimes you make me want to EXPLODE WITH GLEE. And sometimes you do both just to get me even more emotional about everything.

...No squee about Chuck because I have to wait and watch it in the morning. :( :( Well, I can go ahead and pre-summarize it for you: CAAAAASEEEEEYYYYYYY!!!!!
