Sorry I haven't gotten around to replying to all of the posts/comments I've meant to! Hopefully I'll catch back up by tomorrow; but last night I went to a "fun trivia night" that turned out to be one of the most dull and drawn out evenings of my entire life ever (HYPERBOLE, YES, BUT STILL), and now tonight my sister has guilt-tripped me into checking out a karaoke bar with her and I probably should have left already, WHOOPS, but I'm trying to clear through at least one layer of internet duties before I leave. (Does it even need stating that internet >>>> social life?) I am spending the night up there (because, right, it makes perfect sense to make a hundred-mile round-trip drive for karaoke -- oh, sister of mine, I hope you are glad that I love you!) so I think I'm going to counter-guilt-trip her into watching some Who while I'm there so I can stay on top of my rewatch in time for Friday (IT'S ALREADY WEDNESDAY, HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??).

Okay, photo meme, day twelve )

And then this Doctor Who vid rec got buried in the comments of an earlier post, so I'm giving it the place of prominence it deserves: Spoilers through 5.12 )

Despite the fact that my life would basically be over if I somehow tragically lost everything on my computer, I'm only just now backing stuff up on my external harddrive for the first time since... err... Christmas. And some folders have been neglected even longer than that WHAT DON'T JUDGE ME -- and, awww, so much fandom nostalgia! My Legend of the Seeker folder didn't even exist back then! And my Lost folder just doubled in size! Look at all this highly fabulous stuff that is now a part of my life! Highlights version:

Cut for a lot of rather large pictures, and maybe spoilers for things that have happened in TV world for the past six months (or earlier because I'm usually really slow at saving promos/stills/etc.) )

Wow, what a productive evening this has been... off to round it off with some Star Trek novels/cartoons.

I finally managed to see an episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series today. Final assessment? It is faaaabulous. The fact that it's effectively been purged from canon already also gives me a comforting sense of security going into it, because when/if I hit something that's not entertaining-dumb but in fact just dumb-dumb, I can pretend that it doesn't exist. Win/win! I did really enjoy the first episode, though -- maybe it's just because I'm so starved for new Trek that I'll take what I can get, but I thought it was fun and worthwhile. Brief thoughts:

- I wonder what shirtless cartoon Kirk looks like? Also, I wonder why this was literally the very first thought I had when watching?

- Ugh, Uhura is the coolest. This has nothing to do with the episode in particular, it just needs to be said.

- The transporter effect is cool!

- Wait, how are they hanging around without space suits? Do they beam with... magic bubbles now? *confused*

- How come none of the characters have whites to their eyes?

- Every time Spock runs, I just... OMG... *dies*

- The episode starts off really talky, but the plot is actually kind of interesting. Go figure! AND HOLY CRAP THE MIDDLE OF IT IS ACTUALLY REALLY SCARY. OR MAYBE I JUST SCARE EASILY. BUT. YEAH.

- OMFG SCOTTY IN DISTRESS OMG OMG *dies* *again*

- Mr. Kyle. And his mustache. Have I already said "OMG" enough times? Hmm, probably. Okay, then: LOLOLOLOLOL.

- I love that Spock is still such a bitch, and especially to McCoy.

- The bridge has a discoball. MY LIFE IS COMPLETE.

- Kirk's plotting face... dare I say it... OMG OMG OMG.

Anyway, yes, it was rather delightful (except for the part where it made me miss De, meep) and I plan to steadily work my way through the rest.

Other things that amuse me perhaps far too much: this recent metaquote about pre-internet fandoms. Well, mostly it just brought up all my fond memories of my Byron course, and the complete hilarity of nineteenth-century fangirls (and fanboys!). One of these days I will finally get around to reading Glenarvon, which is basically just published self-insert fanfic; ditto The Vampyre, although I have actually read that one. I find it fascinating that both works were created expressly from a place of overwhelming hatred of Byron, too, ahahaaa -- kind of like the anti-fandom surrounding Twilight, I guess, of people who despise and yet are still endlessly fascinated by and irresistibly drawn to the books. It does rather typify my own love-hate relationship with the man... although I suppose it veers much closer to hate-hate, to be honest... I've been trying to watch the Jonny Lee Miller biopic for ages but as soon as I start it I get overwhelmed with "arrrghhhh Byron why are you such an epic douche" and have to stop. But! Philip Glenister! I must continue! ...Eventually. Maybe it'll get more compelling once I get to the Caroline Lamb bits.

ETA: Oh, and one more fandom "hee!" moment, this time Lost-related. Do I really need to be cutting for spoilers? Probably not! But somehow I feel guilty about discussing anything in the land of Lost outside of a cut. )

Double ETA: Man! Why must I have so many fandoms? But but but crappy quality House S6 promo!!!

Not having classes on Fridays? Both a bless and a curse. Blessing: HELLO, NO CLASS. Curse: I can't be arsed to get anything done. I even forgot to set an alarm for this morning and didn't get up until almost 8:00. At the very least I'll be trekking over to the library later today to pick up some movies on reserve (Forbidden Planet and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, what up! I also have plans this weekend to rewatch Repo! The Genetic Opera with one of my friends and then watch the recent Byron TV movie with another. Don't worry, it's perfectly natural to be jealous of my clearly awesome taste in viewing materials).

I just rediscovered a rather embarrassingly large stash of American Idol miscellany on my computer, oh dear. Season six... those were the good days... *is in no way rocking out to Blake Lewis right now, of course not*

GUUUUYSSSS CHUCK IS BACK ON MONDAY!!!! FINALLY MORE CASEY! And, you know, Sarah and Chuck and Ellie and Awesome and Lester and Anna and Morgan and Big Mike and Jeff and awesome guest stars and EVERYBODY...! But mostly Casey. Lamely, though, I think I'll have to start watching it online (why why whhhhhhy did House have to move to Mondays?).

And to close, Lost! Spoilers for 5.03 Jughead )
