snowystingray: (hobbit love)
I've been having the strongest urge to watch "Moulin Rouge" lately, though I'm not really sure why... My sister wants to be the magical sitar for Halloween, but somehow I don't think it's going to work out very well. It'd be kind of annoying having her running around yelling, "I only speak the truth!" or "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return!" And I just got invited to a Halloween party and I really want to go. If I start bugging my parents now they might say yes. I still don't have a costume, though... My new costume of choice would be Haydee as her costume is described near the middle of the book (the white pants, pink shirt, striped jacket, etc. etc.). And! Shock and amaze! I was just taking to Lisa and she told me that they were reading the abridged version. I think I am going to cry. That is the absolute saddest thing I have heard in a long time. At first I was upset that I didn't get to read it for class or discuss it or do any of those fun things, but now I am glad that I'm not in that class any more because I would go absolutely insane. Isn't it an English teacher's sacred duty to preserve and present literary works in all of their intended glory? Well, I suppose that reading an English translation instead of the original French might also seem a violation of that rule, but I'll pretend that it isn't because I'm too lazy to learn French. At any rate, this unfortunate revelation made me remember why I left. Any school that would require their students to study from a so hopelessly edited version of an amazing work of art can't possibly have the positive atmosphere required to stimulate an appreciation for knowledge in all of its various manifestations.

(Ooh, and Rachel, I finally figured out who Rob Dougan is! He has apparently done some score for BtVS, though none of it really sticks out very clearly in my memory. Call me a stubborn Christopher Beck fan, but after he left I really don't think the music was ever the same ::clings hopelessly to "Close Your Eyes"::)
