Aug. 2nd, 2004 07:15 pmOrientation is tomorrow. I know a lot of people dislike orientation because it means that we are going back to school in two days, but I actually find it quite enjoyable. It's like all the good things about school rolled into one. Everything is still clean and smells nice and you can walk around wherever you want you want and you sometimes run into people you like and you can feel free to talk to them about what you did all summer. Also, you don't have to get up early to go and you can leave whenever you feel like going home. I have been trying to get used to waking up early. This morning I woke up at six, got up at a quarter after, got a drink and went to the bathroom, and then went back to bed at about six thirty. Of course, on Thursday I will have to get up earlier than six and I probably won't be able to go back to sleep so quickly, but at least I'm easing myself into my new schedule.
More than getting up early, I think my major adjustment for the upcoming school year will be wearing shoes. Honestly, school is really the only time when I were actual shoes. The rest of the time I am either barefoot or wearing sandals that I can slip out of at the first opportunity. People at my school really don't mind if you wear flip flops or whatever, but my dad won't let me out of the house unless I'm wearing "closed-toed shoes with a back strap." I might otherwise endanger the safety of my precious feet. Indeed. The last time I wore a pair of shoes was for driver's education (yeah, my dad made me wear shoes for that as well) more than a month ago. I meant to buy a new pair of sneakers before school starts, but as I only have two days left I don't think that's going to happen. I guess I can wear my old ones; they're a little shabby, but still serviceable.
I finished reading "Lamb" earlier today. I liked it. I have picked out "Lieutenant Hornblower" as my next book to read. I would have gone with "The Black Tulip," but I think my next book is going to carry into school territory and my Forester will travel much better than my Dumas (I always buy the prettier editions of his work, but unfortunately those are usually the mushier editions as well).
