VEGAS. FINALLY ARRIVED. HOLY CRAP. AWESOME OVERLOAD. COMPLETE SENTENCES. ARE IMPOSSIBLE. I would hate myself for willingly depriving myself of it for so long, but. Duuuuude. The payoff was so totally worth it. I almost don't even want to write up a reaction because I loved EVERY SINGLE FRIGGEN THING about this ep and, uh, wow, I almost don't really know any other way to expand on that. But, hey, I'm resourceful, I'm sure I'll manage somehow.

...Actually, okay, this window has been sitting here for an hour and I haven't actually written a single thing yet, so maybe I overestimated myself. Well, no, it's mostly because I've been going back and catching up on everybody else's reactions, because I've basically shut myself out of fandom for the last three weeks. My unexpected reserve of willpower, let me show you it.

Anyway. Actual episode thoughts! Hmm, I guess it'd be best for me to start by contradicting what I opened with and point out my single disappointment with the episode, which is -- whaaaaaat NEEDS MOAR WOOLSEY. Somehow I was under the mistaken impression that he would figure more prominently... probably an unfortunate side effect from my sudden aversion to spoilers, because I instead formed my impression of what the episode would be based solely on a promo release I read, errr, over the summer some time, I guess, which only made mention of a Detective Sheppard and Agent Woolsey, and then some behind the scenes shots which featured lots of Robert Picardo. So, I mean... not really what I was expecting on that front (CRIME FIGHTING DUO! OH GOD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT), but even then their scenes together were still all sorts of nnnngh. Just... ahhh okay I basically need to rewatch all of it riiiight now but when Woolsey drops by the motel to pick up Sheppard and then John asks whether or not he has a choice in the matter -- Woolsey does this quick jaw clench and then jkldfsaj;a;fad;khgdlskjf John's face and, yeah, it's kind of the most amazing thing ever. Aaaand then nothing else happens between them for the rest of the ep, haha, but that moment alone was just gahhhhh.

And, really, that aside -- come on. Like I'm going to have any complaints about the relationship dynamics that did play out in this episode? JOHN/RODNEY CANON AU? I mean, it's almost better that I wasn't expecting that angle at all because, whoa, my head kind of exploded from the sheer overwhelmingness of it all. For me, it didn't even run up against the potential shortcoming of having the penultimate episode be more of a cool standalone "concept" episode than a building of pertinent plot events because, well, from the stance of bookending one of the themes from the end of S4/beginning of S5 -- I loveloveLOVE how this story played into all of the timeline/choice/change-one-moment stuff from "The Last Man" and how it's like... I don't know, on the one hand this episode was actually, umm, totally depressing in that AU Sheppard's life is just so fucking miserable and, seriously, the ending whaaaaat and then THE TEAM!! is, well, not the team -- and it just filled me with warm glowing affection for our Atlantis; but at the same time there are still these consistencies interspersed throughout that also make my heart heavy with love. We now have an alternate timeline and and alternate reality in which Rodney hangs all of his hope on John Sheppard saving the world, and he's proven right both times, in a sense. We have insta-chemistry of the crazy smouldering oh God seriously how is it possible that JFlan is even hotter than usual??? variety. And then, of course -- "I know everything about you." JUST. UM. OUCH. OH JOHNJOHNJOHN.

Yet right alongside all that emotional turmoil was the complete epic over-the-top stylization that was SO SO SO FUNNY because boy, when they do a genre pastiche they are committed and, seriously, so. much. glee. from the SUPER HARDCORE BADASS ROCK METAL MUSIC that would not end and fast edits and dramatic fades and just take all of my horror-homage squee over "Whispers" and multiply it by a jillion for this episode. SO MUCH FUN IN SO MANY WAYS:

-Wraith baddie was so coooool!! The scene of putting human prosthetics on top of an actor in Wraith prosthetics -- holy effing awesome.
-TODD. WHAAAAAAT. SO CREEPY. SO COOL. I AM TOTALLY OVERUSING THE WORD "SO" AND I APOLOGIZE. I really really hope somebody has already written AU!John/Todd for this episode.
-The exchange about Star Trek: The Experience. HEEEEEEE.
-JENNIFER. ♥ ♥ ♥
-Okay this probably already got mentioned but JOHNNNNN. SERIOUSLY. IS SO ATTRACTIVE. I... CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO COMPREHEND. ETA: OH MY GOD HOW COULD I FORGET TO MENTION -- JOHN/CHAIR. YOU KNOW THEY WANTED TO TOUCH EACH OTHER SO BAD. SDJKL;DSFA;JASDFJ THAT SCENE WAS ALMOST INAPPROPRIATELY HOT. I'LL MISS SGA AND ALL OF ITS INANIMATE OBJECT OTPS.
-UM. SORRY. EVERYTHING. I GIVE UP ON TRYING TO NARROW IT DOWN.

...I can't believe the series freakin' finale is next week. I... am so not ready for this. :/ I kind want to re-re-marathon the entire series between now and Friday.

Also, I guess it's a bit late in the season to change this now, but I probably should have gotten out of the bad habit of posting episode reactions right afterwards because suddenly it's one in the morning and I'm rambling about nonsense and everything seems to degrade into how blindingly attractive Joe is and... yeah, probably not the most comprehensive meta out there. BUT. SERIOUSLY. EVERYTHINGGGGG.
