snowystingray: (holiday cheer)
Possibly a weird question but I hope there are some on my flist who can lend a helping hand... does anybody have any good recs for Wii games? Hello, I'm secretly six years old, but Christmas is fast-approaching and I need to prep a well-researched wish list to hand off to Santa. I have a complicated relationship with video games -- I enjoy playing them but am also really really bad at them, so it makes it hard for me to know what to shop for. I want something that's a little more involved in terms of gameplay, but then I don't want something so completely off my capabilities that I just give up in frustration (and, trust me, it take a lot for me to give up on a game). Games I have played, to give you an idea of my interests/skill level...

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: UGH I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH. For the most part it's right at about my skill level, I guess...? EXCEPT THAT FUCKING CARRIAGE-ON-FIRE SECTION OH MY GOD I HAD TO DO THAT LIKE FIFTY TIMES AND THEN FINALLY MADE MY BROTHER BEAT IT FOR ME. But, I mean, for the most part... I had to look up cheats from time to time but there weren't any completely undoable parts for me. I really like following the mystery/storyline/puzzle-solving parts more than the doing-battle-with-bosses parts.

Super Mario Galaxy: ...I'm embarrassed to say that there are parts of this that are above my skill level. I CAN'T EVEN BEAT MARIO. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. I mean, I did beat the game eventually, but it took us figuring out that you can add a second player who just holds off the bad guys for me to be able to do it. (Also I still haven't finished a lot of the extra levels with comets and things.) Despite some frustrations, though, what I do I like about this game is that, while it does follow a sort of linear storyline, it is possible to skip over some super impossibly frustrating levels, move on, and come back to them later. I like that the controls are fairly simple, no confusing combo moves that I always forget (and even then I can never remember how to do all the jumps and stuff, SIGH).

Metroid: Corruption: I'll be honest, I kind of gave up on this one. Bosses! That are hard! Forget that! (I've never been that into Metroid, though; this was a game for my mom that I just borrowed because I wanted something new to play, but I kind of lost interest after playing the same boss for an hour without getting anywhere. Yawwwn).

And then I have all of the different sports games and stuff that come bundled in, but that's not really the sort of game I'm looking for, sooo... Oh, well, non-Wii games I have loved, if that helps at all.

Yoshi's Island: MY FAVORITE GAME IN THE HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE PLANET EVER. I ROCK THE FACE OFF THIS GAME AND IT RETURNS THE FAVOR. Man, if I could find a Wii game that speaks directly to my soul the same way that this one does? I would be happy forever. I know there's a DS version out, my sister has it and I tried it out once, but I'm pretty much just a fan of the SNES version. Things I like about it... uhh...? It's awesome? What else is there to say? Sorry, this isn't being very helpful. Um, I like that it's cutesy and cracky but still challenging in its own weird way.

Basically every Zelda ever: Well, okay, lies -- I've only played A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time -- but I just really like the action-adventure/dungeon/puzzle-solving gameplay.

Err, actually, now that I think about it, I guess those are really the only games I love beyond all measure. It might be helpful to also talk about games I haven't liked, then? I'm not really a big fan of shoot-em-ups. I've played a couple with my brother but I'm not very good at them and just can't get into it; the closest I've gotten to one I actually liked was Uncharted because it still has some of the fun exploring elements, but any of the run-whilst-shooting-baddies stuff I really just cannot do.

WAIT I THOUGHT OF ANOTHER GAME I LOVE -- TETRIS ATTACK!!!!

(Okay, this probably isn't a very helpful post in giving you an idea of my tastes, but if there are any games you think I should try out feel free to offer suggestions.)
