Jun. 13th, 2007 07:16 pmMcCoy: Spock, I've always suspected that you were a little more human than you let on. Mrs. Sarek, I know about the rigorous training of the Vulcan youth, but tell me, did he ever run and play like the human children, even in secret?
Amanda: Well, he, he did have a pet sehlat he was very fond of.
McCoy: Sehlat?
Amanda: It's sort of a fat teddy bear.
McCoy: A teddy bear?
Sarek: Excuse me, Doctor. It has been a rather long day for my wife. Captain.
Kirk: Ambassador.
(Sarek leads Amanda away.)
McCoy: A teddy bear.
Spock: Not precisely, Doctor. On Vulcan, the teddy bears are alive, and they have six-inch fangs.
I know I'm about forty years behind the power curve, but this show just makes me happy in my heart. Yay.
Oh, and the conclusion of the movie meme:
1: Pickpocket/Rigged Casino/Secret Marriage/Airport Casablanca, guessed by
stellypippin
2: Costume Party/Rose/Perfume Shop/Painter An American in Paris, guessed by
stellypippin
3: Dumb Blonde/Library/Fall From Height/Spell Beauty and the Beast, guessed by
ridiculii
4: Eating Brains/Chandelier/Blackmail/Old Dark House - Clue
5: Wedding Ring/Railway Station/Prostitution/Fire - Gone With The Wind
6: Wedding Gift/Library/Hangover/Reporter - The Philadelphia Story
7: Statue of Liberty/Rollerskating/Poker/Jewish - Funny Girl
8: Lawyer/Impersonation/Based On Novel/Number in Title - A Tale of Two Cities (with Ronald Colman, of course, but for guessing purposes I don't suppose that really mattered)
9: Rich Snob/Music Store/High School Pretty in Pink, guessed by
ridiculii
10: Secret Admirer/Title Spoken By Character/Mirror Phantom of the Opera, guessed by
crumpeteer
So it's a tie between
stellypippin and
ridiculii, but everybody is a winner in my heart (group hug!).

Date: 2007-06-16 03:52 pm (UTC)Now this 'just too good to be true! :-D
Yeah, I'll try to find it and watch it. Really I will. :-)
Btw, I've started on "your" book (The Glass Key), and is in the midst of chapter 3. Figure perhaps we'll wait with discussing it 'til I'm done, but so far it actually surprisingly good. Considering I've never read anything like it before, and still rather enjoy it. *g* I've always avoided anything remotely "crimely" in books and gone for the films instead. (Sherlock Holmes doesn't count. For reasons that takes to long to dwell on here. *g*) Also, I saw that it's the same author that wrote "The Maltese Falcon", which I didn't even know was a novel. :-~ Now I'm contemplating reading that one some time. Seen the film 1 ½ times, but don't remember much, sadly. I think I thought it was a bit slow.
Oh, hang on... I just remember something about a board game... Is it by any chance about a murder in a large villa, and then trying to find out who the murderer is, and then it too can have different endings/stories? (like Gosford Park, or any of the Miss Marple's... *g*) In that case, it's probably the one that was the hugely popular when it came out some ten years ago (I think there was even a national TV show with some eps), only here it's known as "Cluedo".

Date: 2007-06-16 10:42 pm (UTC)I'm glad that you're enjoying The Glass Key so far! I chose it because I read that it was Hammett's personal favourite of all his books, but, yeah, The Maltese Falcon was the title I recognized (well, that and The Thin Man). I watched the movie a few years ago, but I can't say that I remember much from it, either. Actually, haha, the one thing I do remember from it is pretty goofy. When I was a kid, my dad used to have this poster (http://www.nndb.com/films/672/000032576/maltese-sized.jpg) hanging on the wall in the living room. It always used to fascinate me; partly because it took me YEARS to realize that Humphrey Bogart's ear was his ear and not part of Mary Astor's hair, and partly because I used to think that her dress was the coolest thing ever. Well, imagine my disappointment when I finally watched the film years later, and Mary Astor does not once wear that dress! ...And, yeah, that's pretty much all I remember about it.
I've added both The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man to my reading list for this summer, but I'm afraid they'll have to wait until after Harry Potter; I've just started rereading!

Speaking of dresses (and Bogart), I've got a crush on this one, in "To Have And Have Not". Couldn't find a pic that makes it proper justice though, 'cept the one below. You'll just have to see the film. :-P
