Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post your this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.
1. cake ∞: To the uninitiated -- that is, those people with better things to do than obsess over American Idol for months on end -- this may seem to be a pretty odd interest to have listed. To those of us in the know, however, it represents the greatest thing in RPS since, well, ever. Even if you don't follow AI, you've probably heard mention of the beatboxing sensation that is Blake Lewis. Add to that mix the southern charm of Chris Richardson, and you have a recipe for CAKE!! Individually, they are awesome, but together, they are freaking orgasmic.
I've never been much into RPS before, so this is all new and exciting to me. I can't help it, they're just so adorable! And totally about to make out with each other!
2. carlton lassiter: My Psych boyfriend! Boy, but he's adorable -- in a curmudgeonly sort of way. On the outside he is hardcore and intense, and on the inside he likes to feed ponies. Oh, what a tumultuous double life he leads! No, but really, he is hot and hilarious, he makes Shawn/Lassiter possible, and he gets the best Psych-Out.
And, gosh, I just have to be forthcoming with the YouTube clips... But, seriously, this scene is so amazing and just sums up everything I love about Lassiter -- vulnerable, volatile, and some-synonym-for-sexy-that-starts-with-a-V-only-I-don't-think-such-a-word-exists.
3. will turner's hat: It's so flamboyantly fantastic! That for me is the real unifying factor of the first PotC movie -- all the hats.
4. tom jones: Okay, who doesn't love Tom Jones? I tend to pick a lot of my favourite music based upon how much fun it is to sing along with, and Tom Jones gets a 10 out of 10. Also, I hope I'm not the only one who does The Carlton Dance every time I listen to "It's Not Unusual."
5. coma guy: He unknowingly orchestrates romantic rendezvous for House/Wilson, and any contributor to the HoYay is worth being interested in.
6. jeopardy!: I have been experiencing a resurgence in Jeopardy! love as of late. Part of it is that it's pretty much the only show I can watch regularly while I'm here at school, and part of it is that I finally got around to reading Ken Jenning's Brainiac. I sure did have a big crush on him back in the eleventh grade, didn't I? Oh, who am I kidding -- I still have a huge nerd!crush on KenJen. If you aren't checking out his blog on a regular basis, you should add it to your reading list. He's like the new Wil Wheaton! And now I realize that I am digressing quite a bit from the topic at hand... Well, Jeopardy! is probably the one thing that I have watched consistently for, honestly, as long as I can remember, and Ken Jennings was the first thing that made me get fangirly about it.
7. good omens: It's one of my favourite books, but unlike a lot of the stuff that I read, I honestly feel like Good Omens is a book that would appeal to absolutely everybody ever. It's got danger, excitement, adventure, apocalypse, an ambiguously gay duo -- what's not to love? I recommend this book to everybody that I ever meet anywhere. Ever.
Now back to being productive. And by "being productive" I mean "sitting in front of my computer eating ramen and watching House/Wilson videos on YouTube."

Date: 2007-09-29 07:42 pm (UTC)1. Archaeoastronomy: My Great Grandfather was a mathematician who (among other things) was obsessed with the Great Pyramids. He was actually one of the people at the turn of the century who started the interest in mathematical properties and astronomical uses of the Pyramids. I share some of his enthusiasm, and whenever I've been to the UK I love going on tours of the Standing Stones and Circles and learning about their astronomical uses.
2. Busby Berkeley: My recent interest in this Director and Choreographer of musicals in the early '30s comes from 'Footlight Parade' - the movie that started off my Cagney obsession. But while watching that musical I realised that the geometrical over-the-top dance numbers involving huge swimming pools, mirrors and other crazy props was speaking very deeply to me. I think as a child I had watched a couple of these musicals and they had a deep impact... I'd always said I loved musicals, but when watching more recent/after 1950s musicals they just weren't what I remembered loving. Berkeley was the real McCoy for me!
3. Costumes. A very long answer is possible here. But one of my very first LJ posts dealt with the attractions, if you're keen, I've dug up the link:
4. Francis of Assisi. I don't talk about religion very much, but I come from a religious family of radical progressive hippy Catholics who have flirted with ex-Communication with our 'go out and love the people, forget Church Authority' sort of antics. My father was a Franciscan monk (well, technically Friar) until he met my mom and left the Order. My dad remains a spiritual man, a religious artist, and his life is inspired by the gentle, poor, nonjudgmental, hard-working Francis. Francis is my favorite saint, and I took the feminine form of his name (Frances) as my confirmation name.
5. Labyrinth. The movie with David Bowie! I love that film! I love Jim Henson, but Labyrinth also brings together one of the best themes (you can grow up and still have imaginary friends) of all time with the awesomeness of Bowie. One day I will make a Goblin King costume!
6. Regency Dance. I went through a Regency-loving period and made a gown and everything. There's a bizarre tradition at some Science Fiction Cons of having a Regency Dance with an instructor and the right steps and music and everything. I LOVED it!
7. The Thin Man. The movie from the 1930s with William Powell and Myrna Loy. I discovered them when I went branching off in my love of the 1930s. I just adore them. Myrna Loy has such great clothes and style and the movie is hilarious. But more than that, I love that the adventures begin after marriage, it doesn't end with marriage like so many films do. They manage to be cool, intelligent, loving, funny, occasionally drunk, silly AND married.

Date: 2007-10-02 12:55 am (UTC)And I just have to say I completely agree with your reasoning for loving The Thin Man. I know I just fangirled over North & South recently, but it does always bug me when movies end happily ever after because they're going to get married and, of course, nothing can go wrong from there! I always watch them and think, "Ugggh, so friggen romantic! I wish that was me! ...But it probably isn't going to be half as much fun once they actually get married. Sexual tension resolved!" The Thin Man, though, curbs my inner relationship cynic, because man would I love to have a marriage like that! My favourite is The Thin Man Goes Home, with all its absurd domestic hilarity.

Date: 2007-09-24 06:57 am (UTC)And dude. I nearly saw Tom Jones, like last week, but the ticket was sadly passed on to someone - well, more deserving. I was all excited though. Tom Jones! *sigh*
