Epic Girl!crush Picspam of Doom that I started, like... a month ago... is finally finished! ...Sort of. Well. Finished in a me definition of the word, where I spent way too long working on it; started getting picky over everything; somehow picked up two new fandoms in the meantime; felt compelled to add more and more; felt guilty over stuff being left out; finally said ENOUGH ALREADY, SELF -- CLOSURE!! So I limited it to television girl!crushes. From shows currently airing -- or that would be airing if they weren't on hiatus. Or if they hadn't been off the air for years, and that I'm only now catching up with. Except for, well, the one that's already aired and I've already caught up with, finally, but am not ready to let go of. Ahhhh this is why I can never get anything done.

A few of the reasons why I love my TV...

Usually I'm a fan of saving the best for last, but I decided rather to open with Lucy Griffiths, as she was what prompted this endeavor in the first place. Just when I thought I had finally put all of my angst about that episode behind me, I had an inexplicable resurgence of Robin Hood brain babble (which, uh, I am still sort of working out. See above re: my inability to finish projects) -- and of course my love for the show is tied directly to Lady Marian.

Her indomitable virtues of cunning, cleverness, compassion, and, uh, total hotness overwhelm even the worst hairstyles of insanity and some truly tragic costuming choices.

But you know, sometimes I wish that she'd maybe be a smidge less impossibly adorable, awesome, gorgeous, etc. etc. -- because 1) HOW DOES SHE DO IT?? My brain fails to comprehend and 2) then maybe I wouldn't find it so deeply, emotionally distressing to deal with her continued absence from the small screen. Luuuuucy don't abandon us forever!

Next up we have yet another unfortunate victim of my recent tendency to jinx all of my favourite TV gals into getting killed off of their shows -- Dr. Amber Volakis of House, MD.

Words coming back to bit me in the ass: "Oh, pleeeease bring her back on the show! I don't care where/why/how/etc., it just needs to happen!!" Maybe I should have put in a tiny disclaimer about, y'know, not bringing her back just to cause me more emotional turmoil, BUT WHATEVER. At least Anne Dudek rocked the face off of the finale (seriously. If you didn't cry, it's time to get your tear ducts oiled, Mr Robot Man. And if you didn't go ZOMG HOT at subconscious!House/Amber, check to see if you are STILL ALIVE. And if you didn't feel hollow/anguished/peaceful/pissed off/gloomy/dreamy/thwarted/saddddd at the Heavenly Intercity Transit... well, that's kind of a lot to feel all at once, so I don't blame you. I realize now that I never actually posted a response to the finale, and, well... yeah. I still kind of feel like House and Wilson at the end of the episode -- are there words to say how crappy I feel about it? No. Siiigh. And, man, this is getting too talky for a picspam!).

You can still catch Anne Dudek in a handful of other shows -- some of which I actually watch, shocker! -- so let's hope I don't doom her into leaving those yet. Although I seem to have already cast my curse over Detective Lucinda Barry on Psych, the fate of Mad Men's Francine Hanson looks good for now... perhaps happy times job-wise finally coinciding with happy news IRL-wise because OMG PREGNANT AND SHE LOOKS SO HAPPY (DID I SAY THAT ALREADY??) AND AMAZING??!?!!

Anne acts in three of the shows featured in this post, so I'll use her as a starting point to go through them one at a time. I was first introduced to her on Psych as Lassiter's junior detective-slash-girlfriend (ha, perhaps why I love Miss Dudek so much? She gets to sleep with all of my TV boyfriends, SHE THEREFORE MUST BE AWESOME), only to have her swiftly swept aside for a younger, bouncier, blonder replacement. So technically, I should hate Detective Juliet O'Hara on principle, as a symbol of everything wrong with media portrayal and audience expectation of the modern working woman, buuut. Well. It's not like she personally fired Anne Dudek or anything. And she's smart and cute and funny, occasionally a little green but learning, some Mary Sue-ish tendencies but endearingly quirky. Verdict: Maggie Lawson is just too darned nice to hate. Go ahead, try. I dare you.

...You couldn't make it, could you? I bet it was the ChapStick (fictional characters take note -- this is an instant means of endearing yourself to me. It worked for Rodney McKay, it worked for Jules, and it can work for you, too!).

The next show on which I caught Anne was House, MD, the one that made me fall for her something fierce. And, hey, once again it features a female character I really wanted to hate for her sake, too. Only, well, I did actually succeed there for a while. I don't think I so much hated Thirteen as I did resent her, because from the moment she was introduced you just knew there was no way she wasn't going to get hired and, man, way to blow half the fun of the competition, you know? I enjoyed her character during the initial stages of the Amber/Thirteen rivalry, but once it became apparent that it would end in an either-or situation, not both when it came to hiring -- the claws came out against Thirteen. ETERNAL HATRED AUUUGHHHH!!! ...Except not, because just a few episodes later she finally started to grow on me. I think it's because, once she was actually hired, the writers decided they could do something with her, instead of just have her hang about as Enigmatic Mysterious Hottie (psst -- not nearly intriguing as it sounds!).

Even though I feel comfortable saying that I like Thirteen now, I don't find her character to be all that crushable -- BUT OH MY GOD OLIVIA WILDE IS HOT LIKE BURNING.

I sort of feel the same way about Dr. Allison Cameron and Jennifer Morrison -- okay-ish on the character, but dfsjklasdf;jaf gorgeous about the actress.

(Also? How sad is it that I started to get a little sad going through my JMo photos and finding that I still have all her In Style Weddings scans saved? :( :( I swear I never get upset about celebrity couples, I don't know what's wrong with me.)

Lisa Cuddy -- once again, ambivalent! I think she can kick a lot of ass and be a strong authority figure when she needs to be, but I'm always a little eeeshy by the show's tendency to play up House/Cuddy in a way that makes her seem inept at her job -- good relationship when it's playful and challenging, bad when it's demeaning. But, well, extra awesome points for Lisa's endless supply of perfect "BITCH PLZ" faces.

Finally, Mad Men, Anne's current show. Although it's the kind of drama where it's hard to even like any of the characters, don't bother telling me that you can watch it without falling in love with Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway because I will instantly know that you are full of lies.

The thing is, I really didn't get the appeal of her YoSaffBridge on Firefly; but I don't know if the difference here is purely a costume kink, because the 60s did not exactly produce a lot of my favourite looks... Ah, I guess I will just have to accept her insane levels of awesome without being able to justify my sudden turnaround.

Now onto the scifi portion of our evening! Okay, so I kind of lied when I said Lucy was the sole impetus for this post; my other biiiig motivator was Nana Visitor as Major Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. How sad am I to finally be through with the show?? D: D: D: (Well, I think I might still have a few scattered episodes to go back and watch; after going through every single episode summary I think there are three I still haven't seen that must have fallen through the cracks of SpikeTV's scheduling somewhere, but for all intents and purposes I've run through the entire show history. WITHDRAWAL IMMINENT OH NOES) Kira is probably my all time favourite female Trek character. I think her arc throughout the show strikes the perfect balance between loyalty to self, a real core understanding of who she is and what she believes -- and openness to change, a flexibility to learn and grow from those around her. I know I already quoted this bit after watching the series finale, but I completely agree with Nana's articulation of her character's journey: "She has come full circle, but going full circle, she's explored all the degrees all the way around the circle, so she's pretty much in the same place, but not the same person at all. There's a depth and an understanding, and an experience that only going the whole way around the trip gives you." She's always uniquely her, but in a way always changing... and somebody please stop me before I break out in a rousing chorus of Meredith Brooks' "Bitch."

So she suffered from the occasional bad hairstyle, but that's what alternate reality/holosuite episodes are for! "Badda-bing, Badda-bang" = SO SO SO GOOD. (Okay, maybe I like the 60s more than I thought. :P)

Recurring DS9 ladies of awesome:

Keiko O'Brien (who makes me feel bad for shipping Bashir/O'Brien... but not bad enough to stop, apparently :P), Kasidy Yates (who is the best kind of love interest for getting to be more than a love interest and have her own episode arcs, yay), Grilka (because Quark has excellent taste in women XD), and, okay, I cheated with the Mirror!verse characters, whatever.

I debated including Terry Farrell as Jadzia... she reminds me too much of my oldest sister to be a part of my crush list, but she's gorgeous and smart and just a teeny bit wacky (hmm, again like my sister!), sooo she's an Honourary Cool TV Chick Who I Don't Really Perv Over But Do Love Mightily Just the Same.

This, folks, is my Dax of choice: Ezri, as played by the delightfully wee and cute Nicole de Boer!

Once more I find myself doing a total 180° on a character -- I remember disliking Ezri when I caught my first few snippets of DS9 a few summers ago, but when I sat down to watch S7 properly this year I absolutely fell in love. Okay, so she's kind of the worst counselor ever (seriously, how many times does she give advice along the lines of, "We should just let this play out and see where it goes"? TOO MANY TIMES, THAT'S HOW MANY. It's her panacea for serial killers, PTSD sufferers, emotionally unstable family members... and it seems to end in death a smidge too often to be a practicable solution.) But... whatever. Who said TV crushes had to make sense?

Because Nicole will be guest starring in an upcoming episode, up next is Stargate: Atlantis. ...I'm sure you can guess where this is headed.

Rather than explaining my love for Teyla Emmagen, I think what we have here is another instance of -- seriously? If you don't find her attractive? I... cannot come up with any other common ground.

(I will at least concede that Teyla's wigs are usually varying levels of horrible, but does anybody know of a good place to find shots of Rachel Luttrell out of character? The internets, they are failing me. D:)

Now that I've started in on SG-1 as well, of course I have to include that ubiquitous 'gateverse gal, Dr. (Captain, Colonel, etc., depending on which series I'm watching) Samantha Carter.

Yeah, yeah, I know I've already said this for a lot of the women on here, but WOW I was SO SURE I was going to hate Sam. Like, ZERO doubt in my mind. THE ULTIMATE CANON MARY SUE, IS THERE NOTHING SHE CAN'T DO? Starting out with SGA, I already hated her because, seiously, how can you talk up a character so much who isn't even on the damn show? As soon as Amanda Tapping started popping up to guest in episodes, I was just gooo awayyyy get off my show *flaps hands in the direction of Milky Way, OUT OF ATLANTIS*. I absolutely dreaded starting season four because, seriously, I don't need you mucking with my team dynamic, Sam!

And then, when faced with the prospect of full time Carter... I just couldn't do it. The ultimate in Sue technology, perhaps -- a character I am physically incapable of hating? It's like what JFlan says here: even if you try to foment some sort of conflict, you just... what. No. It will not take. And now with SG-1, I've gone from not hating to actively loving her. SO YOUNG, SO PLAGUED BY FLOPPY NINETIES HAIR.

Other SG-1 honourable mention: Teryl Rothery as Dr. Janet Fraiser. I can't say I've seen enough of the show to come up with some thorough, concrete explanation for why I like her, buuut basically she's awesome. And I was probably predisposed because she's yet another Psych/Stargate crossover actress.

Finally, The Middleman! As with Jadzia, I have a hard time finding Natalie Morales crushable because she reminds me ssssoooo much of my other sister (so if you're ever trying to picture my family -- Jadzia Dax, Wendy Watson, me, and I guess I have to find a fictional doppleganger for my little brother). She's currently one of my favourite TV girls of the moment, though, so I couldn't bear to leave her off.

And Brit Morgan as Lacey Thornfield! She's grown on me quite a lot throughout the course of the show; at the start she bore too close a resemblance to so many obnoxious art students it has been my misfortune to encounter thanks to my choice of undergraduate institution; but there's a real sweetness and innocence about her character that's downright charming, and I really love her relationship with DubDub.

...And you know, I was all ready to wrap this up when I realized that I hadn't included anybody from Lost. Which, uh... my relationship with that show and its characters is. Well? Complicated. ??? I don't know how to explain it. Like, I love them all beyond reason, but don't think of them in crush terms because they're almost too real? Like, I mean, in the sense that I think about people in real life -- a lot of TV crushes are because, you know, you get to see the hidden squishy side of this character or feel like you get to know them better than anybody because you're invited into all aspects of their lives, etc. -- that sense of security that you know and understand a character. But on Lost I don't want to feel that way; I want to have my mind blown in the face of unexpected insanity on a weekly basis; but I guess that means the sacrifice of comfortable, reliable TV crushes. But, I mean... I still love them...? I dunno. IT MAKES SENSE IN MY HEAD. But, well, yeah, I felt bad about leaving them off, so here you go!

OH YES I PUT ANA LUCIA ON THERE. WHAT NOW. (See? This is what I mean about "complicated" feelings.) Here's some fascinating insight into my private life, too -- Penny and I have THE SAME EXACT YELLOW WATER PITCHER! True story, it's sitting in my fridge right now.

EEE, I KNOW! I feel bad, though, because usually House doesn't immediately spring to mind when I think of shows with great female characters... because I feel like it has all of these amazing actresses but sometimes doesn't know what to do with them. MAKE USE OF YOUR OUTSTANDING RESOURCES, SHOW! (Or maybe I'm just blinded by House/Wilson, who knows.)

Glad you enjoyed! :D

And, oh nooo, not another show for me to watch and love and then angst over when I'm through, ahhhh... too much temptation! ;) Except, well, now that you mentioned it, you know I'm going to feel compelled to check it out, don't you? (Also? Looking at it now on IMDb -- how did I not previous connect Paul Haggis of Crash and Million Dollar Baby fame with Paul Haggis of Walker, Texas Ranger and Due South? Or, rather, perhaps I should ask the opposite: HOW ARE THEY THE SAME PERSON?? His TV and film personas seem to have merged in Black Donnellys, though, so now I'm intrigued...)

LLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUUUUUUCYYYYYYYYYY.

She is the best. Seeing that many overwhelmingly gorgeous pictures of her all right next to each other might have made my brain short-circuit a little. And I cannot for a single milisecond even begin to comprehend WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE STUPID, STUPID WRITERS. I just -- I -- I --

The issues, they are never really gonna go away.

And, oh, Anne Dudek and Maggie Lawson and the House ladies and the Lost ladies! Also AWESOME. And I agree with what you said about Thirteen -- I haaaated her in a way that was frightening, but I do like that once she got hired, the show kind of took her in the opposite direction than Cameron 2.0. Thank God.

(Also, for some reason I was thinking about Chase/Cameron and therefore Jennifer/Jesse this morning -- I don't even know what brought it into my head, because I haven't thought about that show for ages -- and THE PAIN IS STILL SO FRESH. That photoshoot was too adorable for their love to die!!! And damn it, their breakup issues are depriving me of Chase/Cam and it IS NOT ALLOWED.)

Siiiiiiigh I know. :/ Not to be melodramatic or anything, but it's really one of the greatest tragedies of my life thus far. I hope she goes on to enjoy a long and industrious career in roles of the happy making variety, because there is something decidedly not right about me having all of these negative, depressing associations with her wonderful person.

Ha, I kind of crack myself up in going back to read over some of my old episode reactions to 13: meh, annoyance, omg yay 13/CTB, ARGHHHH YOU RUINED MY LIFE PLZ DIAF, ohhh I kind of like you now. That's relationship growth, right there. I'm just glad that they're actually DOING stuff with her now, it seems -- and I hope they keep up the trend with the rest of the House ladies next season because, as I was saying with [livejournal.com profile] ace_of_spades6, there's so much to work with!

(And, geez, seriously! They're still sweet and mature and professional when they've broken up, which makes me love them even more because it reminds me of why I liked them as a couple, which makes me even gloomier now. It's a vicious cycle.)

Jules is too much fun, it's kind of ridiculous. :D And, well, I think there's certainly some nice potential for meaty Thirteen storylines next season... I'm guessing that a lot of viewers are still kind of iffy on the new team as a whole, so I'm sure the writers are armed and ready to convince us of why we should embrace the Ducklings 2.0 as our own. Being the big ol' nosy busybody that I am, I personally can't wait for extra backstory on everybody -- should be fun!

Ok, I have to ask (as I have not seen past Season 3 of House) what is going on in the bottom right of this picture. :-P

IT IS TOTALLY OK TO HAVE ANA LUCIA UP THERE. The main objections I see to her in fandom are so totally ridiculous that the HATRED has actually made me like her *more*, although I liked her quite a bit in the first place. I like most of the female characters in Lost actually (apart from the phase of sheer unadulterated loathing I had for Juliet, which has since worn off, clearly :-P) so its a shame that Season 4 made me so thoroughly uncomfortable about how it dealt with some of them. Kate has been reduced entirely to a love object for a while now, and I know the way Ben regards Juliet is *supposed* to be horrible but...yeah. Its all a bit men or babies isn't it.

My love for Kira truly knows no bounds. I wouldn't say she *made* me bisexual, but she certainly made me sure of my bisexuality. :-P Despite the fact that after the fact I got a bit irritated with the Mirror Universe episodes because apparently you can only have queer characters if they're evil, I do have some fond memories of those episodes... :-P :-P

It's from the S4 finale -- House is trying to figure out why he was meeting Amber at the bar (a meeting that led to them being in a bus crash in which he lost his memories of the event, she's in critical condition, etc.); his guilty subconscious is afraid he and Amber might have been having an affair behind Wilson's back; so his subconscious-as-Amber starts sexing up his subconscious-as-himself and basically it's just a masturbatory fantasy I suppose but SO SO RIDICULOUSLY HOT and unfortunately I can't find it on YouTube. :(

Yeah, I don't understand the intense Ana Lucia hatred, either... I mean, obviously she has more than a few unsavory character traits, but. Uh. THIS IS LOST, PEOPLE. I don't know who your shining examples of unshakable moral fortitude are, but I'd be glad to meet them after you point them out. I thought she was a very very very real portrayal of how someone might respond to an endlessly craptastic string of events, and man did I feel bad for her -- and, yeah, like you said, probably more so because she's so unpopular in fandom (whatever, I bet everybody's just jealous that she got to sleep with Sawyer :P).

I'll admit that I still hate Juliet a bit, though. But, well... again with the whoa conflicted emotions. I think she's a great character because I hate her so much, maybe...? That is, she can only elicit such a strong response because I feel some affinity with her as a character. It's a classic love-to-hate thing, I guess, only sometimes it gets flipped around into hate-to-love, too... I don't know. She often fills me with unparalleled raaaaaaaaage, but I'm still glad she's on the show. ...Make of that what you will.

Um, SO AGREED on Kate. I think the life sucking vortex of that triangle is the real reason why I don't really care so much about the original Losties these days. Just... geez. They should pull a Broadcast News or something with an upcoming flashforward and in the end she's not with Jack OR Sawyer but, like, Sayid or something. (Oh yeah, I totally shipped Kate/Sayid back in the very first few episodes. Old school OTP!)

I am similarly conflicted about the Mirrorverse. On the one hand, uhhh, not exactly going to complain about leather-clad Kira/Ezri make-outs. But on the other... ugh, seriously, I hate that it's like -- oh, well now we KNOW this is the evil!Kira because she's gay! And then that episode in particular, "The Emperor's New Cloak," is the one where Rom crosses over, too, and keeps commenting on how everything is the opposite from normal because it's an alternate universe -- and then the episode ends with the Ezri/Leeta bit because, you know, it's opposite world so everybody's a lesbian! and then Rom wants to rush back home where apparently lesbians don't exist. Because of course that's only for alternate characters. Cue extreme annoyance. :/ I don't know, maybe it's just because I liked DS9 so much that I held it to a higher set of standards and then the bad bits just stood out more, but it seems like the episodes that irritated me were really really incredibly irksome. So, yes, that episode; then I know you mentioned "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" before I had seen it, and, having now watched it, OMG AGREED; and "Profit and Lace," dsfhjl;afds HAAAAATE.

Ah, I figured it was a dream/fantasy, but hee!

The main criticsms I've heard for Ana Lucia are
a) that people hate the actress and can't disassociate the two - well, I know basically nothing about her except that obviously she got arrested because that's why she got fired, but I don't really *care* about people's private lives unless they go and murder children or something. I gather she's just someone that people don't really like, although I like her in the one other thing I've ever seen her in.
b) She's a 'tough cop' cliche. I would think you would *have* to be tough in that job to be honest. Like you I actually thought her flashbacks were pretty believable.
c) Anyone who gets within 100 feet of Jack or Sawyer is loathed, unless they're Kate. (Sometimes if they are Kate.) This is obviously found *everywhere* in fandom but it doesn't mean I have any time for it WHATSOEVER. Note to fandom: women are not evil and you are never going to shag a fictional character. DEAL.

I think part of my new found Juliet fondness is because the actress is so awesome. She just seems so adorable in the Season 3 outtakes. :D And also I like her because she actually disrupted the stupid love triangle of Doom for a few episodes. I would rather Jack/Juliet than Jack/Kate to be honest. (And by this point I really am wishing that Kate ends up with neither of them and in fact ends up with NOONE but is happily fulfilled without a damn boyfriend. Of course *no one* in Lost is going to end up happy so that's a dream, but you know. GAH.)

Re DS9: there's the whole argument that portrayals of alternative sexualities such as that are subversive, because despite the fact that they're sectioned off clearly behind a rope with a sign saying 'other', they've still been mentioned in the first place, are out there and can't be ignored totally. But really, I expect a show like DS9 not to have to do that. But alas, a) there were people behind the scenes who didn't want that to happen and b) we're STILL not at the point where sci-fi shows, or most shows can do it. (Excepting Torchwood - I really wish that show wasn't utter shite so I could enjoy that fact more.) I mean even BSG could only have lesbians when one of them was a war criminal, one of them was a Cylon who can use love as a weapon and they end up killing each other. (Actually BSG is probably a bad example because the relationship structure in that society seems to be quite conservative, even if the gender roles aren't.)

I've not seen Michelle Rodriguez in anything else so I guess it might have helped that I don't have any outside feelings on the actress... but I did feel like she was a really good fit for the part -- which, weirdly, might have been what backfired with most fans in mixing opinions about the character/actress? Hmm... It's funny, though, because, like you mentioned, I feel the exact opposite about Juliet. She's often the object of much frustration; and yet ZOMG YES Elizabeth Mitchell is the cutest. Again, though, that probably has to do with prior affiliation, as she guest starred in one of my favourite episodes of House (Damned If You Do).

(Excepting Torchwood - I really wish that show wasn't utter shite so I could enjoy that fact more.)

*sporfle* I... probably shouldn't have been drinking while reading this. But, yeah, I feel the same way about a lot of shows: I appreciate that they're on and what they're bringing to popular media, but do I hafta watch them?

Wow - I loved this post. Even if I only caught like 15% of it ;-)

I wanted to comment on Christina Hendricks. I've now seen 2 episodes of Mad Men (you should be proud of your influence) and she is totally hot in that show. I could see how she was sexy in Firefly, and I've met her in RL (my husband is mightily smitten with her - it was a big day for him) but she is so suited to late '50s - early '60s styles, she just glows in them. It doesn't matter if that's not a personal favorite era for fashion, but it is tailor-made for her figure. Honestly, I think she has a figure better than Marilyn Monroe's in those clothes.

Oh, actually, I did know that about you getting to meet Christina Hendricks! I hope this doesn't sound creepy, ha -- but I've been catching up on my TiVo lately, and I still had a bunch of movies saved from the last James Cagney marathon. And, well, I always associate you with his work, so after I finished them (Blonde Crazy; One, Two, Three; and Smart Money) I was browsing through your tags to see if you had any reviews up for those movies, and in doing so I stumbled across your post about meeting her. AND Robert Picardo, ahhh! I thought it was kind of funny because while I wasn't hugely attached to them in their seminal scifi roles (already commented on Firefly; and while I loved the Doctor, I never got super fannish over Voyager) and probably wouldn't have been as excited at the time, but now they happen two be two of my favourites from new fandoms picked up this summer (Robert Picardo is SO fantastic on SGA, it's ridiculous). (Oh, but anyway, this just tangentially reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask on my journal -- namely, how people feel about commenting on oldddd stuff. Is that weird to do? I know a lot of times I'll have comment notifications sitting in my inbox for weeks because it's stuff that I'm still sort of thinking about but don't quite know what to say, and then like a month later something will trigger a response to it and I want to reply, but I don't know if the person will be like, "...Why are you replying to this now?" And then on old entires, like your con report for meeting Christina Hendrick and Robert Picardo -- once I get into a new fandom, I have a tendency to browse through old entries from people on my flist who I know are already fans, but I always feel a little weird commenting on posts like that because, I don't know, I worry that it seems too random or something. ...And, ha, I'm probably the only person who angsts over commenting etiquette, but who knows.)

but she is so suited to late '50s - early '60s styles, she just glows in them. It doesn't matter if that's not a personal favorite era for fashion, but it is tailor-made for her figure. Honestly, I think she has a figure better than Marilyn Monroe's in those clothes.

I could not agree more! I guess that probably is what makes the difference for me, then -- a 60s style just for the sake of the period, to fit in with a particular trend, is not enough to grab my attention based on the look itself, but she is just so perfectly suited to it that it's hard to imagine her in anything else! Also, I didn't include her in the original post, but my other favourite on the show in terms of personal style is Rachel -- suuuch a different body type from Joan, so I think between the two of them they show off all the best of the 60s. And, yay, I'm glad you're enjoying the show. :D

:D Did you find my stash of Cagney entries in 1974 when you did that? I don't recall if I posted reviews of those 3, though I certainly took notes to do one for each of them often I don't get around to writing it out.

Personally, it would make my day to have a comment on an old entry! I try to make the 'content' part of my blog available with tags and all that, so I'm basically inviting readers to find, read and comment. So I don't think it's weird at all. Maybe some would, but I bet since LJ turns everyone into comment-whores ;-) that you're pretty safe. It's possible some people don't have email notifications turned on, so they may never find out about your comment, so I'd prepare myself for not getting responses as often.

I didn't make it back quite that far (err, as you could probably tell, I tend to get easily distracted while reading stuff online. "James Cagney! Ooh, but look, Christina Hendricks! AND ROBERT PICARDO! ...Wait, what was I looking for? I dunno, but this is cool!" But anyway, hee, I'm going through them now. Unfortunately, I still haven't seen a lot of the films you have up, but I'll probably poke through them again after I watch some more (and who knows, maybe I'll even feel up to commenting on old stuff! Ha, you're probably right about most of us being comment-whores... I guess mostly I'd be concerned that the OP just isn't that interested in the topic any more, but obviously I know that isn't the case with you :D).

Pretty! I love Amber and Francine and Joan and Juliet and Wendy and Lacey and Cuddy SO MUCH! Great pictures, they look beautiful. Sorry to disappoint you though but I don't find Teyla/Rachel attractive. I don't know why, I just don't.

Yay, glad you enjoyed! :) And, hey, no need to apologize for different tastes -- as I mentioned, even I have to acknowledge that, ackkk, hair/costuming on the show seem strangely determined to be as shamelessly tacky as possible when it comes to Teyla (as if we needed another reminder that the show is run by the Manliest Men ever: "How are we supposed to know about practical clothing and natural hairstyles? That's, like... girl stuff.")

Oh, trust me, I am always ready and willing to revisit this post/topic. ;) I'm glad you finally got a chance to watch season four! I know it probably caused the most divided response in fandom, but I'm firmly encamped on the BEST SEASON EVER side of the issue -- even if it only further contributed to my omg horrrrrible track record with TV girlfriends. :( Even though I will probably never not be somewhat bitter about Amber not making the team, I'm quite looking forward to what they do with all the newbies next season, especially Thirteen in light of the finale. (Also, I don't know if you're in the mood to handle more Amber-related gloominess or not, but this video (http://community.livejournal.com/alchemic_dreams/31495.html) is amazing if you haven't seen it yet.)

I knew what was going to happen (which was good because I didn't feel I'd killed off someone else just by looking at them in a friendly manner which is what usually happens to me these days) but oh god. I was literally sobbing. TV: can't live without it, can't stop it repeatedly punching you in the chest.

I thought that I might not like the new additions to the cast in Season 4, as so often happens when new people get brought into an established show. But that really wasn't a problem; Amber, Thirteen and Taub all interest me...Kutner less so but I'll give him a chance. And the old trio are not forgotten but actually get to, gosh, evolve rather than performing the same function every week. House is really a deceptively well written show I think. (Deceptively in that it might seem like one of the many problem-of-the-week-but-no-character-development shows at first glance.)

OH, TRUST ME. I KNOW THE FEELING AND... ERR... MAY OR MAY NOT SCROLL BACK THROUGH THIS POST ON AN EMBARRASSINGLY REGULAR BASIS. AHEM. ANYWAY.

Eee, I'm always glad for more Robin Hood friends! God, I can't believe that show has been away for almost a YEAR now, because it still gnaws at my brain as mightily as ever. I'm still not completely sure how I'm going to be able to handle watching series three without Lucy -- and yet GEEZ SERIOUSLY WHEN IS IT COMING BACK ALREADY??! I've already seen the goofy new Rrrarmitage look, so now I need some story to go with it.

Yeah, I added the post to my memories as well. :DD

When they first announced that Merlin was airing I was all like "OMG NUUUUU THAT IS ROBIN HOOD'S TIMESLOT, IS IT CANCELLED?!?!?!?!?!!!!111" but OMG RELIEF when this was not the case. I have been watching RH only Rawrmitage and Guy/Marian actually. Well, and Djaq, Will and Alan. Everybody except Robin actually. lol
Robin is okay but such a pansy. And he has no leather. Or the Rawrmitage patented smoulder. Or Guyliner. 4 srs.

I have been forseeing some cracktastic shipping with Guy/Guy's Sister/ Robin.
