I've started and re-started this entry about a half dozen times because I feel the need to correct my shoddy posting record as of late, and yet all I can come up with is a continuous stream of moping about my current Real Life woes, but I've been doing enough of that to those unfortunate enough to ask me, "So, how's life going?" and it is now at the point where it is no longer cathartic but instead quite simply wallowing. But then making my usual recourse to fictional alternatives seems less than savory at the moment, considering that LOST DESTROYED MY SOUL AUUUGHHHHHHHH YOU THINK I'D BE USED TO IT BY NOW, BUT I'M NOT.
(Actually, I only have one Lost-related revelation that I feel up to sharing, and it isn't even spoilery. You know what connection I finally made? LOCKE'S MOM IS LILY CHARLES. HOW DID I NEVER REALIZE THIS? Well, probably because Lily is one gorgeous fierce bitch whereas Emily is, ummm... is there a polite way to say old and nutty? No? I didn't think so. Anyway.)
So to switch it up to something nicer (err, sort of), I shall instead commence shameless begging for some good Sam/Gene recs. I know I'm a million years behind the power curve on this one, but I just finished the first series of Life on Mars AND I AM SO IN LOVE. Right now I'm torn between wanting to finish the whole thing straight away and wanting to hold off so it lasts as long as possible...

Date: 2009-05-17 03:25 am (UTC)Let's see... shows I've been keen on lately... well, like I said in the post, I have been catching up on Life on Mars but I assume you've already seen that. Um. Also I am at this moment in the middle of watching some Farscape -- I don't remember how much of it you said you'd watched, but I've really been enjoying it! Well, the second season was kind of waning for me a bit at the beginning, but I just hit the midseason mutli-parter and AHHHHH okay I'm pretty sure it just got really good again. :P
OH. OH. Okay. I was going through my list of shows to rec (Psych? I AM SO STOKED for it to return and this show delights me like whoa, but it's also kind of standard dramedy procedural and I don't know whether something like that would be up your alley... Pushing Daisies? Always my favorite dose of happy and adorable except for the part where IT'S CANCELED, DAMMIT ARGHHHH so it now inspires frustration -- although, ooh, now that I'm on Bryan Fuller shows, did you ever watch Dead Like Me? That's one of my favorite "argh my life is dumb and being a young adult is so stupidly stressful and why don't I have things sorted already?" shows) and and AAAAND I always seem to forget about this one when I'm doing rec lists, which is a shame because it's amaaaaazing -- but! THE MIDDLEMAN. (Well, okay, to be upfront about it, it does have the same pitfall as Pushing Daisies in that it has already been canceled after just twelve episodes. FAIL. But it's still awesome.) I think you'd really enjoy it. It has: wacky scifi plots, endless amounts of nerd references, spunky female leads, sweet opening credits, and even an episode with vampires (well, vampire puppets -- EVEN BETTER!!!). Sands of Zanzibar! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StG2a1vjC4w)

Date: 2009-05-17 06:41 pm (UTC)Pushing Daisies wasn't really my thing, I'm afraid, and I've seen Life on Mars and pretty much all of Farscape (I was part of the campaign not to cancel it which, er, didn't work) but I'll check out the rest of your suggestions, thanks!

Date: 2009-05-21 11:38 pm (UTC)Um, seriously. While planning my Exciting Summer Travels with my mother, she was booking tickets and mentioned that we would be flying out on a Wednesday -- and my first thought was noooo Wednesday is sacred Lost day!! even though, uhhh, the show is totally over and, anyway, even if it wasn't, REAL LIFE fun stuff should totally trump TV... except it completely doesn't. Oh my lack of priorities.
And be sure to let me know what shows you end up trying! Much as I love PD I do completely understand that it is a HUGE CUTESY ADORABLENESS OVERLOAD that isn't really for everybody (and in that case I think you'd probably like Dead Like Me more anyway, as it veers more toward the cynical/satirical/bitchy/etc. -- so it's still funny and emotional and heartfelt, but just in a different way). Also I cannot emphasize enough how completely freaking awesome The Middleman is, as I'm in the midst of rewatching an episode right now and ahhhh it is so good. A testament to my pure and abiding love is the fact that I'm actually planning on buy the DVDs as soon as they come out, even though it's been almost a year since the last time I picked up any other TV DVDs on account of being TOTALLY BROKE (Lost doesn't count, people just keep giving it to me! :P) but MM is the exception to my miserliness.
