Now that I am finally catching up on the internet at large from the past few weeks, it's time for some linkspam!

I'm still trying to get through all of the greatness that came out of various Robin Hood-related gift exchanges. Not to toot my own organizational horn or anything, but the [livejournal.com profile] capslock_hood Secret Santa turned out AWESOME, even if the comments completely ate my inbox. LINK IN CASE YOU MISSED THE GREATNESS. (And actually, oh, I just realized -- there's still one gift missing, but hopefully we'll have it up soon enough.) My own contribution of a shameless Guy/Robin vid:

Guy/Robin - Shackled to Each Other from ForYourEdification on Vimeo.

Then [livejournal.com profile] an_lagat_glas wrote me some Mazabella (!!!! I KNOW!!) for [livejournal.com profile] isabella_giz: the red queen and the white

[livejournal.com profile] lalumena made made me a rockin' desktop for [livejournal.com profile] robinxisabella.

And then I got two completely fabulous gifts for [livejournal.com profile] gxm_secretsanta, which I guess you can't see if you aren't a member... but [livejournal.com profile] hulamoth very kindly reposted her fic: (This is Not a) Dinner Date. AU Guy/Marian collegefic. YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT.

A few vid recs embedded behind the cut:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LOST LOST LOST LOST LOST!! THIS PROMO IS SO AWESOME!

AND AHHHHHH LOST, THIS PROMO IS POSSIBLY THE SINGLE WORST PROMO I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I'M SO ASHAMED THAT IT HAS THE "LOST" TITLE ATTACHED TO IT:

Also, rather random, considering that I'm not in this fandom any more... but I've rec'ed this vidder's work before because it is just so so so spot on and fun and clever and wondrous, so who cares if I don't even watch the show? Leverage vid focusing on Parker and Hardison with a side of Eliot (i.e. the three reasons I watched for as long as I did):

Now that I have some free time to catch up on sewing projects, I'm going back to my old habit of browsing etsy for some handmade inspiration -- and, as usual, I have happened upon some true horrors. WHAT, PRAY TELL, IS THIS? NO, REALLY, WHAAAAAT??!!?! It's like that episode of Daria where Jane wants to become The Lady and The Tiger by bleaching streaks into her hair. Looking at embroidery pieces always depresses me, though, because on the one hand I deeply appreciate the sheer number of long tedious hours that go into making these things, but on the other hand... sorry. Why on Earth would somebody pay $40 for this? I really really love this store, though, and wish I had $30 to drop on a pincushion. LOOK AT HOW ADORABLE THIS ONE IS.

I also picked up my final paycheck from Retail Job today, and it was quite a bit more than I anticipated because I forgot that I was getting paid for two weeks instead of just one. Whee! Unexpected money! (Or, alternately -- whee! I have no handle on my personal finances and forget when my pay periods are!)

ETA: HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO INCLUDE THIS??! The whole series is awesome, but, I mean, COME ON OF COURSE THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE:

Yes, that tapestry is creepy as all get out - mostly because it reminds me of Jocelyn Wildenstein, aka The Cat Lady. Those pincushions are gorgeous, but I couldn't conscience paying $40 for that simple tapestry thing. It probably is more challenging to make than it looks, but still. Not pretty or impressive enough to warrant my purchasing it, though.

Glad you liked the wallpaper! :)

That's my mindset, too, and I know it's problematic -- because, again, with my small experience of dabbling in embroidery, I can say that the combination of tools/materials/work hours put into that piece probably warrants the $40 price tag, and yet to look at the end result, it just seems so absurdly expensive. For the most part, hand sewing really has been priced out of the market; it's basically impossible to charge a fair price for labor, and yet still cost something that would seem reasonable to most consumers. This is why the majority of the textile industry is still stuck in sweatshop wages, because we've been so conditioned to want to pay as little as possible. I feel so split... as a consumer, I am the ultimate cheapskate; and yet as a sometimes-producer, I have a vague idea of what is a fair price; and the two very rarely meet up in a satisfactory way. BAHHH CONSUMERISM!

I KNOWWWW. I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT KATE'S EYEROLL AT :07-:08 IS DIRECTED AT THE PROMO IN GENERAL. I am comforting myself with the knowledge that D&C have very very very little to do with promos, and ABC is notorious for cheesing it up as much as possible, and hopefully TPTB who are responsible for actual storylines hate this type of shipmongering as much as we do...

thanks for the rec!

I am still seriously in love with the video you made me. I went out and bought an Erasure: greatest hits album because of it.

Also, ASHES TO ROBIN HOOD = GOLD.

I don't care about Lost but your comments on those promos sound sound.

re: that tapestry
it looks like this book I thought was good years ago (spoiler: SHE REALLY DOES DYE HER HAIR TO LOOK LIKE A TIGER).

haha, that embroidery. Someone was totally thinking, "wtf is this? I dunno, if I call it a lotus some idiot will buy it"

also PINCUSHION ENVY WHAT IN THE WORLD. I am sorely tempted except I fear I would start collecting LIKE A MADWOMAN WITH POKEMAN

Ahahahaha, you have no idea how happy this makes me.

AND DID YOU WATCH THE ASHES TO AUSTEN (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOr11W8Lm6I) ONE? IT IS POSSIBLY EVEN GOLDEN-ER, ONLY I LINKED THE HOODIE ONE BECAUSE, Y'KNOW, IT'S ME AND I HAVE MY PRIORITIES.
