Considering that about 99% of my journal content consists of me fretting over fictional characters, I hope you will appreciate the direness of my situation when I say that right now I am honestly truly disturbed by just how deeply emotionally invested I am in the fate of Chuck. First of all, THIS SHOW CANNOT BE CANCELED. PERIOD. Just. What. I have a hard time accepting that the show is even in this position -- aside from maybe House, I feel like it's the most mainstream/viewer-friendly of all my fandoms. In fact, I mostly got invested because I felt like it was safe, consistent, goofy fun that I could rely on week after week while all the rest of my shows were dropping like flies. (SERIOUSLY GUYS WHAT IS WITH THIS PAST YEAR? Atlantis, The Middleman, Crusoe, Pushing Daisies -- um, just, no. The last thing I need is more cancellation heartbreak.) The only thing I can come up with is that it has a killer timeslot; I'll admit that I don't even watch it live, because I'm watching House instead (but then of course I catch up with Chuck on Hulu which I suppose is a more effective demonstration of my viewership, so...). But if House kills Chuck? UGHHHHHHH.

And then secondly, even assuming the show does get renewed (pleasepleasepleeeeease), I AM SO ANXIOUS ABOUT MONDAY'S EPISODE. Speculation based on the NBC promo )

So. Ahem. Freak-out aside -- I don't know, this is kind of a thing I do every year at this time! A redirection of term project/finals/end-of-school anxieties, I suppose... probably exacerbated this year because I have even more going on in that department! Well, previously it had been jumping into totally new shows (last year SGA, and then the year before Robin Hood), but this time around I think it's just going to be me getting completely reinvested in a super huge way in Chuck. At this point in time any sort of pimp post/Why You Should Watch/10 Awesome Things probably would not make much of a dent in any viewership deficits, but you know what? WHO CARES. I feel inspired to share my love with the wooorld! Also, I know I tend to spend a bit too much time complaining/worrying/angsting over the show, so it feels appropriate to pause and celebrate what I do enjoy about being a fan.

So like I said, I know it's late in the game and there's no obligation to feel pressured to go out and buy the first season and catch up on all of the second season and get invested in everybody and pore over every single episode in the few days between now in the finale -- but if you feel inspired to head over to Hulu and watch an episode or two (although there is some running backstory, the show is fairly episodic), that would make me beyond happy. Or if you just want to scroll through this post and ogle Adam Baldwin, that's cool with me, too.

'If you say pilot of the Millennium Falcon, I will hit you.' 'Why would I say that, that's absurd! I'm going to be a ninja assassin.' )

So I didn't post about Chuck last week because, to be honest, I've been a bit annoyed with the whole "get the Intersect out of my brain" storyline as of late, mostly just because it's phrased in terms of, "...so I can go back to my old life and learn to loooove again!" Um. Hi. Memo to Chuck: YOUR OLD LIFE SUCKED ASS. PRE-INTERSECT YOU WERE GOING TO BE STUCK WORKING AT BUYMORE UNTIL DEATH. ALSO I'M PRETTY SURE DOMESTICALLY HOOKING UP WITH SARAH POST-INTERSECT IS PROBABLY NOT REALLY A VIABLE OPTION. PSST -- SHE IS STILL A FRIGGEN SPY! I mean, not that I don't think it's an appropriate growth angle for the character to have Chuck learning to appreciate the things he used to take for granted even when he was suffering in miserable mediocrity -- friends, family, being young and carefree -- but I think it needs to be appropriately balanced by the fact that getting a glimpse of this totally different lifestyle has motivated him to move forward with himself and acknowledge all of this unrealized potential, not simply slink back to "the way things were." (I mean, hey, didn't we try to clear this up back in episode one of the season?: Chuck: "Your new Intersect is almost done, and when it is I'm free, I'm cool, I'm clear, I'm outta here, I have a future and a life that I wanna live." Casey: "Future's a dangerous thing, Chuck, doesn't always work out like you want it to.")

But, well, this is all griping to clear the way for the fact that I did actually enjoy this week's quite a lot. Spoilers for 2.18 Chuck vs. the Broken Heart )

Sorry for all the Lost spam, but I'm working through the extras on the S4 DVDs and the deleted scenes are kind of the BEST THING EVER. There's even a whole Kate/Sayid scene just for me!

Yes, I am wrong in the head.

In case you never watched it, this also feels like an appropriate time to share the Michael Emerson/Elizabeth Mitchell video podcast for "The Other Woman" because they are both so gosh darned cute in it! How do such adorable people play such manipulative, often creepy and morally ambiguous characters? I am in awe.

Best things about tonight's Psych 3.12 Earth, Wind, and... Wait for It... )

Ohhh Psych, how I have missed you! Although technically this is its second week back... Well, apparently it takes a Lassiter-centric episode to get me motivated enough to post.

In doing my Year in Fiction recap last time, I had the most fun -- and blew the most time! -- doing my TV post; and, as 2008 began drawing to a close, I sincerely looked forward to going through the same process again in putting together a TV of 2008 retrospective. Yet once work actually began... I. Wow. Holy balls, guys. I WATCH SO MUCH FRIGGEN TV. When exactly did that happen? Looking over my post from last year I felt a bit ridiculous about how many new fandoms I had picked up, but between now and then my list has just about tripled. Um. Err. Yeah. Oops? I apologize in advance for the rather epic nature of this post, then. Definitely not dial-up friendly. Spoilers for the most recent seasons of: American Idol, Big Wolf on Campus, Chuck, Crusoe, House M.D., Legend of the Seeker, Life on Mars, Lost, M*A*S*H, Mad Men, Merlin, The Middleman, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: SG-1, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: TOS.

I know usually I have to make a combined Psych/SGA post, but this week I really really feel that SGA needs its own post. (And, err, I haven't actually watched Psych yet. OOPS. But last night my parents suddenly decided that they had to finally watch There Will Be Blood before seeing this week's "There Might Be Blood"; which, yay, worked for me, except then after running over to the other TV to play back the just-finished-recording SGA -- and then pretty much bawling my face out -- and then watching it over again -- and then spending a few hours online getting fandom warm fuzzies -- yeeeah, I think I'll probably try and finish Psych later today.)

I've been sitting on these episode reviews for too long, and now they're starting to pile up! Oh, the hardship of watching too much TV. :P (And then of course I just had to start watching a new show, too; with its second season starting back on Sunday, I decided to catch up with Mad Men. I blame this 110% on Anne Dudek and her unfortunate tendency to get written off of every show she's in -- but I will follow her dutifully across the rugged terrain of the small screen!) General spoilers through: The Middleman 1.07 "The Cursed Tuba Contingency"; Stargate: Atlantis 5.03 "Broken Ties"; and Psych 3.02 "Murder?... Anyone?... Anyone?... Bueller?"

Congratulations! You've just won bitchiest banana. )

Yesterday might well have been my fullest day of geekery in a while. New Star Trek character promos, new Watchmen trailer, new Psych, new Stargate: Atlantis, new Dr. Horrible (well, technically that was today but I watched it in the wee hours of the morning so I'm counting it in with last night). And my commentary on these: already posted about my jonesin' for some Bonesin'; way cool and seems perfectly atmospheric; I laughed and I cried and I loooved; Zelenka got sucked into a reenactment of Evil Dead oh noes; Joss Whedon, thanks for reminding me why I love hate love hate you.
