Bwahaha, somebody has finally made a [livejournal.com profile] spock_chapel comm. AWESOME. Now, quick, somebody cast Anne Dudek as Chapel in the next Abrams film.

Meme! That I have in fact done before! But, well, [livejournal.com profile] hulamoth gave me new prompts, and who am I to resist?

I am so nervous about school starting tomorrow that I am incapable of posting anything original today. Instead, I'll just steal a bunch of stuff from other people and share it here.

An awesome article ganked from [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge: A new planet named Xena. There... are not even words for this. While I'm sure this announcement has made some people lose their faith in the scientific community as a whole, I'm all for it. My personal favourite quote from the article is, "Dr Brown and his team have christened it Xena, after the warrior princess in the old television series, '... because we always wanted to name something Xena.'"

Most recently nicked from [livejournal.com profile] mystickeeper, that book meme that has been floating around )

There's only a week left of school! I'm allowed to be lazy! )

Today was my first day driving as a licensed driver. It's nice, I guess. I get to boss everybody around (not really, but I could if I wanted to) and choose what we listen to (today, "Beauty and the Beast" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" soundtracks). Nickie and I also went to Lakeland today, but I let her drive. All I wanted to do was buy a pair of shoes, but she wanted to do some actual shopping so we walked around the mall for a million years (re: about three hours). It took me about two minutes to buy the shoes I wanted (I had spotted them a few weeks ago and decided to get them if I couldn't find anything else). They're just black sandals and they only cost ten dollars so I paid in cash and have yet to use my credit card. I went into Hot Topic to show Nickie the Jack-Sparrow-looks-like-Prince shirt (seriously. It's the most amusing shirt ever and worth braving the scariness that is Hot Topic). I was surprised to see that they had Duran Duran shirts. Since when?!

Yesterday I finally finished watching the writer/director commentary on FotR. I also finished reading "Pyramids" and started on "Guards! Guards!" I was going to save "Guards! Guards!" for the plane, but I still have "Captain Blood" to read so I suppose I can take that with me instead.

I am supposed to go driving tonight (I need ten hours of nighttime driving by next Friday, oops) but now it is looking like it is going to rain and I don't want to drive in the dark AND in the rain so I don't know what I'm going to do.

I talk about driving too much.

So let's talk about it a little bit more! Class wasn't nearly as bad today as it usually is. We had a makeup day, so I started and finished "Barrel Fever" this morning (oh, and I finished "Sourcery" yesterday afternoon). I love "SantaLand Diaries." I had to exercise a lot of self control to not burst out laughing quite frequently. Another favourite was "Glen's Homophobia Newsletter Vol. 3, No. 2" ("Drew Pierson's home (ophobic) telephone number is..." ::dies::). I also started on "Wyrd Sisters" at lunch, but I haven't gotten very far into it. Today for this first time ever somebody asked me what the picture on my bag was (of course, this is the picture) and then proceeded to grope Scarlett. Thanks, Phillip!

I finally drove first this afternoon, but we didn't go very far because our instructor was looking at houses for his wife. We waited around and were harassed by construction workers while he looked at some model homes (pretty standard fare, very boring). We got off rather early but I have had a serious lack of things to do because we had to replace one of our satellite receivers and are now getting two free months of some movie channel or other and apparently "Hart's War" takes precedence over "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (not in my book, people!). I actually read that teen magazine that I get from USAA. I'm not sure if that is an all-time low or not, but... ::shrugs::

Looks like I am going to have to drive tonight. Bugger.

As I haven't updated in a while, a little review of what I have been doing the past few days shall follow...

Thursday my mom and I went to Epcot to meet [livejournal.com profile] katwm80 and her mom. My first impression: IT IS SO HOT. The most I have "experienced the great outdoors" this summer is working out in the rec room with the air conditioner off and the windows open, so actually walking outside for a few hours was more or less torture. Also, my ice cream started melting out of the bottom of my cone and dripping on my shoes. Add to that some beer that somebody spilled on my feet later (yes, people drink beer at Disney), and my shoes were having quite a day... After Epcot we went to watch PoA again, and I liked it quite a bit more this time. I still don't really like the Leaky Cauldron or the Three Broomsticks, but I think I am warming up to the Knight Bus.

Yesterday we went to the Florida Mall, and despite the fact that I am in desperate need of new clothes, I didn't buy any. I ran into [livejournal.com profile] srcastikangel's mom and brother, but obviously not The Erin herself. I ended up buying three books ("Pyramids," "Guards! Guards!" and "Barrel Fever") and a CD ("Beauty and the Beast" soundtrack). Last night Nickie and I went to the movie theatre to watch "The Stepford Wives". By the time we got there, we had to go all the way down to Albertson's to park, and we had to sit in the very very front row of the theatre because everywhere else was full. I don't really know why there were so many people there, because usually the movie theatre isn't a place a lot of people go to hang out. Also, they were opening the movie in one of the front theatres instead of the bigger ones in the back, so extra people plus a smaller theatre equals no good seats. I can see where the bad reviews for the movie come from, but I actually liked it. I adored Roger, and I especially loved when they were going through his trash ("He loved this..." "Viggo!"). As I'm sure most people have said, the end was a little "meh", but the rest of it was quite well done and definitely entertaining.

This afternoon I went with my mom and my sister to watch "Ella Enchanted". I did like parts of it, but overall I thought it was just okay. It was more of a rehash of movies that I love into a movie that I wasn't all too crazy about.

Besides going to the movies, what have I done this week...? Oh, I started on "The Three Musketeers", which I am enjoying, if for no other reason, because it has a chapter entitled "The Plot Thickens" ::dumaslove:: I've also been doing more driving (gag) and I am starting driver's ed on Tuesday (double gag). Thankfully, it is only a nine day course.

Nickie and I were planning to go with her friend John to see "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" this afternoon, but he is having some family thing and my mom wants us to take Dallas with us, so I think we are going to see "Secret Window" instead. That is pretty much fine with me, because I was planning on seeing it sometime this week anyway. I guess now I will have to plan another time to see "Sunshine," though...

I really want to buy a copy of the next Princess Diaries book, but it won't be out in paperback until Tuesday ::whimpers:: I want it NOW! I still haven't read "The Light Fantastic," though, but I have to reread "The Colour of Magic" first. I think that is probably what I will do this week... After that I will need to go to the bookstore and pick up some new stuff. I need more shelves in my room.

Oh, and I did finish listening to pandemoniumfromamerica last night. Note to self: listening to it right before going to sleep isn't really a good idea. I had this dream where the song "Shadow" was instead a cover of Rufus Wainwright's "Shadows" and I was at a party with Rufus and Viggo... It was odd...

I have been suffering from a complete and utter lack of (enjoyable) things to do with my life. I do, however, still have some birthday money left over, so somebody needs to help me decide how to spend it to best amuse myself. I have pretty much decided that I want some new books, but I don't really know what to buy.

The Books I Have Bought Recently:
-The Knight of Maison-Rouge; I really enjoyed this one most of the way through and, although I think the end was fitting, I am still undecided as to whether I like it or not. Overall, it was the sort of thing that would appeal to me, though ::love to Lorin::
-Princess in the Spotlight; I just started on this one today, and although I have to hide what I am reading from everybody I do like it so far. Three cheers for people who watch BtVS.
-Princess in Love; haven't started on this one yet
-The Light Fantastic; the only other Discworld book I have read is "The Colour of Magic." Although I don't remember everything that happened in it (bad me, I read it for the first time only like six months ago or something), I do remember that I liked it.

Books I Have Been Considering Buying:
-The Three Musketeers; I do really want a copy of this, but it is so hard to find a nice one. They all have some pervy looking fop on there that would frighten me half to death if he were staring up at me from my shelf... ::shudders::
-Gone With The Wind; Same deal as above. I want a copy, but the ones that they have are the overdramatized corny romance novel looking covers that middle aged women read on the subway. So. Yeah.
-At Swim, Two Boys; I've had a ton of recommendations for this book, but I still haven't read it yet. I have been meaning to... This is probably one that I will end up buying...

Anyway, if any of you guys have any suggestions for books to read, I would greatly appreciate them. Unless of course you suggest "The da Vinci Code," in which case I will have to cry.

EDIT: Bugger. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow ::hates life::
snowystingray: (greeting)
Well, yesterday I ended up getting a new shirt and a pair of jeans, as well as a copy of "Great Expectations" and "The Colour of Magic". I really wanted to get that new Alexandre Dumas book, but they only had it in hard cover and my sister and I are very poor so I had to leave it ::sniffle:: However, I haven't started on either of the books that I got because I have been rereading "Little Women" lately. The first time I read it was when I was about nine or ten and it was one of my favourite books for the longest time, but the end always used to really bug me. The more I read it the more it got on my nerves, until eventually I couldn't bring myself to read the whole thing because I knew how horribly the end was going to clash with my expectations. So I haven't read it in about two or three years, but I decided to read it again and to see if I still have the same opinions about it as I used to. It's already made me cry about three times and I've hardly gotten 150 pages into it. How silly of me.
