I think I've finally decided to catch up with S4 Mad Men. This is basically just a forewarning to expect the flood of "DON FUCKING DRAAAAAAPER!!!!!!!!"s to return. (And through some grand cosmic irony, his current paramour is named Bethany ahahahaaaahaaaaaa WHY NO YOU ARE TAINTING MY NAME.)

ETA: Oh, but I finally finished Sungkyunkwan Scandal (I put off the last episode for over a week because I just didn't want it to enddddd, b'awww) and THIS SHOW IS SO GOSH DARNED PERFECT. Most of my quibbles just have to do with wishing that it was longer so certain storylines could have gotten more resolution, but overall EEEEEE AMAZING EEEEEEEE. :D :D :D

ETA2: PETEPETEPETEPETE how I have missed that little bitch. (But, omg, so glad -- in so many ways -- that I am not watching this show along with fandom.)

ETA3: Okay, so certain aspects of my work life have been kind of crap lately, but today was nice and I feel the need to record that for Future Me to look upon the next time I have a moment of COMPLETELY DESPAIRING OF EVERY CHILD EVER, AUUUGGGGGHHHHH. Anyway. In my elementary class, we were finishing up a story where the two leads get paired off by the end, and the closing lines are an exchange of "I love you"s. The kids all squabbled over who would have to read that page, because -- "No, Teacher! NO! NO!!! Ew! I can't read!" Bahaaaaaaha they were all so embarrassed and scandalized, it was beautiful. ("Dirty! Very dirty!" one of my students declared.) Then I had them brainstorm ideas for what might happen after the story ends, and every single one somehow ends with a killer/killing/everyone dies. I asked them to come up with at least one happy ending, so somebody suggested that maybe they got married and had one hundred babies. Umm...? Probably not happy for her uterus, but close enough -- and then of course somebody chimed in with, "And then, they are die!" OMG, I FINALLY UNDERSTAND KDRAMAS NOW. Expressions of love = bad, lots of dead bodies = good. Right. And then because it was Pepero Day, I got some boxes of candy from a couple of my middle schools boys and, ahahaha, they were so hilariously awkward and embarrassed about it, like it physically pained them to do something sweet for me (and I'm guessing that most of them only did it because their moms made them). Also, Tuesday, I got the best excuse ever for a missing homework assignment: "I AM DO! But... my book ran away."

My new shirt just came out of the wash with a stain on it! AND I CAN'T GET IT TO COME OUT. UGGGHHHH. Sorry, but this is the exact opposite of how it's supposed to work, clothes should be cleaner AFTER visiting the washing machine, argh argh argh. Look, I know it's just a $6 t-shirt from the Gap but I LIKE IT AND IT'S THE PERFECT COLOR I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR MY WHOLE LIFE, AND NOW THAT THEY CLOSED THE GAP AT MY MALL THE NEAREST ONE IS LIKE 40M AWAY AND I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THAT FAR TO GET A NEW ONE. PLUS IT PROBABLY ISN'T $6 ANY MORE BECAUSE IT WAS A SALE.

:( :( :(

Rewatching Mad Men S3 in preparation for Sunday! Okay, okay, I know I said I would avoid fandom talk for this season -- and I have! No discussion threads for me! But that doesn't mean I can't post about it, right...? Anyway, it's the same thing I always do -- the show goes off and I get annoyed at the culture surrounding it and then start to think that I hate the show, too, and it's an overrated piece of media out to RUIN MY LIFE -- and then I watch it again and remember that, right, it's gorgeous and amazing. And quippy! Hahaha, I forgot how much I loved cranky bitchtastic early S3 Don, before I went back to wanting to cook him in coconut breading and feed him to the monkeys.

Don confronts Sally about his broken suitcase
Don: Figure out how much it is to get it repaired, and it'll come out of your allowance.
Sally: I don't get an allowance.
Don: Then don't break things!

And also:

Ken: [admiring his new watch] What time is it? What time isn't it?

Anyway, I'm halfway through "The Fog," and haven't yet started to fret about how much I hate everybody (except Paul. Fuck that guy).

Further chronicles of how much I need to do something with my hair: I was outside with my dogs the other afternoon, and when I came into the house for a drink I thought I heard something moving around the kitchen. There was this weird rustling noise, and as I walked around to investigate I realized that the noise was coming from behind me, and only happened every time I moved my head. Hmmm...! So, yeah, I had an eight-inch twig with like five leaves attached to it STUCK IN THE BACK OF MY HAIR and I didn't even feel or notice it. Who knows what else is going on back there??

It's weird to think of Comic-Con going on without Lost this year. I'm suddenly completely uninvested!

Okay, time for that fabric store run that I have been putting off all week...

Okay, the Sons of Anarchy post I MEANT to make last night... Herein lie spoilers for the first two seasons. )

I am never going to finish this recap, am I? I don't know why I'm so demotivated this time around; in years past, it has always been my favorite bit of my year in review. Possibly I am just getting bogged down... um, yes, you can probably see why I needed to implement that "no new shows" rule. So, anyway, TV I Have Seen! Spoilers for: House, Legend of the Seeker, Leverage, Life on Mars, Lost, Mad Men, Merlin, NCIS, Psych, Pushing Daisies.

WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, this post is done for now and it's not even 1:30AM yet. I had to cut myself off at Robin Hood or else... yeah. Hmm. Badness would ensue; I'll save that for a later date.

Not watching new White Collar until tomorrow but, after getting caught up with everything yesterday, I felt the need to make a pre-emptive photo post.

Just got through with the Cranford Christmas special -- boy but that series does not cut back on the high mortality rates, does it? On the whole I don't think this was as well put together as the original but, still, high old lady hilarity all around and yay Tim Curry and yay Jodie Whittaker. Overall, though, I'm rather disappointed with Masterpiece Theatre's spring line up. Bahhhhh to Austen encore (well, I will admit that the Northanger Abbey movie was extremely adorable, but epic do not want to the new Emma mini. BECAUSE THAT'S JUST WHAT THE WORLD NEEDED, RIGHT?); Small Island sounds interesting, so I guess I will bide my time until April.

To continue my 2009 review, Books of 2009! )
I am seriously contemplating changing my mad+men tag to don+draper+can+go+fuck+himself.

So... Lost...

Spoilers for 5.10 He's Our You )

ETA: Completely unrelated to everything else, uh -- but, oh God, the amount that I love Watchmen fandom is probably directly proportional to the amount that Alan Moore hates us all, ahahaha. CASE IN POINT. THIS IS SO CUTE THAT IT CAUSES ME PHYSICAL PAIN.

In doing my Year in Fiction recap last time, I had the most fun -- and blew the most time! -- doing my TV post; and, as 2008 began drawing to a close, I sincerely looked forward to going through the same process again in putting together a TV of 2008 retrospective. Yet once work actually began... I. Wow. Holy balls, guys. I WATCH SO MUCH FRIGGEN TV. When exactly did that happen? Looking over my post from last year I felt a bit ridiculous about how many new fandoms I had picked up, but between now and then my list has just about tripled. Um. Err. Yeah. Oops? I apologize in advance for the rather epic nature of this post, then. Definitely not dial-up friendly. Spoilers for the most recent seasons of: American Idol, Big Wolf on Campus, Chuck, Crusoe, House M.D., Legend of the Seeker, Life on Mars, Lost, M*A*S*H, Mad Men, Merlin, The Middleman, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: SG-1, Star Trek: DS9, Star Trek: TOS.

I have been quite remiss in post about new episodes of Mad Men, and now the season is almost over! Finale next week! !!!

But, anyway, I was finally spurred into posting by one Pete Campbell. OMG. Whywhywhy does he entrance me so? "HELL'S BELLS TRUDY!!!!" If ever anything needed a .gif to bust out at all occasions, it is the defenestration of Trudy's roast fowl omg seriously epic. (I wonder if I will ever get tired of overusing that word... probably not! Besides, that scene deserves it. EP.IC.)

From [ profile] dollsome:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions.
3. You should then update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You should include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed you should ask them 5 questions.

My questions! )
snowystingray: (there will be blood)
Because new Mad Men is on tonight, I am reminded that I wanted to post this-- earlier I shared my epiphany regarding the mental affiliation that I have subconsciously created between Mad Men and There Will Be Blood; and then the other day I was browsing AMC's promo gallery for the show and this one shot in particular... well. FROM MY BRAIN TO REALITY. )

Epic Girl!crush Picspam of Doom that I started, like... a month ago... is finally finished! ...Sort of. Well. Finished in a me definition of the word, where I spent way too long working on it; started getting picky over everything; somehow picked up two new fandoms in the meantime; felt compelled to add more and more; felt guilty over stuff being left out; finally said ENOUGH ALREADY, SELF -- CLOSURE!! So I limited it to television girl!crushes. From shows currently airing -- or that would be airing if they weren't on hiatus. Or if they hadn't been off the air for years, and that I'm only now catching up with. Except for, well, the one that's already aired and I've already caught up with, finally, but am not ready to let go of. Ahhhh this is why I can never get anything done.

A few of the reasons why I love my TV... )
snowystingray: (the middleman)
I might be slightly MIA for the next few days because I just had my wisdom teeth out this morning, and... ow. And, well, it's not even that bad, but the times that it doesn't hurt are probably even worse for me to be online because that means I'm probably strung out on painkillers and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a keyboard (I was trying to write one of my friends from school and had to literally retype every other word because the letters just wouldn't travel properly from my brain to my fingertips. Thank God for Firefox's automatic spellcheck for saving me from many a faux pas.

Recent TV catch-up:

Psych 3.04 - I didn't like it quite as much as I thought I would, if only because there wasn't a single explicit Goonies reference! Ah! I thought at least with the dropped pennies everywhere, we'd get some sort of, "Yeah? Well this was my wish, and it didn't come true. I'm takin' it back!" But whatever, it was still a lot of fun. Loved the intro: "Okay, Henry's right, it isn't real gold -- BUT IT IS REAL CHOCOLATE! YEEEAHHHH!!!"

Mad Men 2.03 - No Pete. Woe is me. But but lots of extra Sal so I consider myself contented. Next week looks fun: "My mom has bigs ones, too!" Oh, out of the mouths of babes...

The Middleman 1.09 - Ah, see, wasn't I just complaining about the missing James Bond feel in 1.07? Obviously they were saving it up for this week. And, oh, Tyler is cute. And he cooks! KEEPER.

SG-1 first half of S1...ish - I think I've managed to overcome the part of my brain that still misses James Spader's Daniel Jackson, and instead embrace Shanks as a floppy haired geek alternative. A lot of the writing is... well, wow, kind of bad, and makes me appreciate SGA more (who thought I'd ever say THAT), but again I'm easy prey for any sort of building team dynamic, so yay for that. Also, Dr. Fraiser = awesome. The show also breaks one of my Rules for All Good Dramas -- namely, don't introduce cutesy kids every other week -- but ohhh they're so cute. (Yes, I did just watch "Singularity" yesterday, how could you tell?) Finally, actor crossover! I squeed right and proper at Armin Shimerman's name in the opening credits of "The Nox," only to probably injure a few vital body parts in laughing so hard once he made his appearance.

Ferengi make-up, I can live with, maybe even fall in love with (which reminds me, I keep meaning to do an Aliens I Love post. ...After I finish my girl!crushspam. And redhead spam). Stowing house plants in your hair... not so much. XD

I've been sitting on these episode reviews for too long, and now they're starting to pile up! Oh, the hardship of watching too much TV. :P (And then of course I just had to start watching a new show, too; with its second season starting back on Sunday, I decided to catch up with Mad Men. I blame this 110% on Anne Dudek and her unfortunate tendency to get written off of every show she's in -- but I will follow her dutifully across the rugged terrain of the small screen!) General spoilers through: The Middleman 1.07 "The Cursed Tuba Contingency"; Stargate: Atlantis 5.03 "Broken Ties"; and Psych 3.02 "Murder?... Anyone?... Anyone?... Bueller?"

Congratulations! You've just won bitchiest banana. )
